bought a knife from ebay?

I have done many ebay transactions. As a bguyer, all have been first class. As a seller, I have had two people not pay. No big deal. I just checked my "My Ebay" page. In the last 30 days I got a

  • spyderco jester $16.99
  • Spyderco mini police necklace $36.00
  • Benchmade 941 Dec. 2000 KOTM $136.00
  • Camillus Cuda 5.5 Stilletto $159.95
  • Kershaw red handle scallion $20.00

I also buy off Bladeforums and from Bladeforums dealers. I have never had a problem and I buy LOTS of knives. I can't wait to see that rainbow leek from 888knivesrus. BTW, the guy has all colors of kershaw scallion on ebay for $20+$6.00 shipping. I ordered it on a Thursday with buy it now and it was in hand on Monday.

I buy all my knives off ebay, mostly older sj's. In my over 150 dealings on ebay, I've only been used once, and that was my own stupidity. Most definitely ask questions if you're not sure, and watch out for pictures that don't show the knife with the blades open, or both sides of the knife handles.

I have done private deals with these ebay sellers as well. Once you get a good history going with them, they'll usually cut some kind of deal, like waiving the shipping charges or something.

Also, get a paypal account and use it. I try now to only purchase from sellers that take paypal or bidpay. It's a pain to get money orders now.

The 'bid your highest bid and stick to it' strategy is great. It's way too easy to get sucked into a bidding war.

All in all, I've had nothing but positive experiences with ebay...

I've found thht ebay may be a good place to sell lower-end knives, under $250 say, but it is very hard to get what a higher-end knife is worth on ebay. I think it's because (like me) most people are looking for bargins there and are usually not prepared to pay what something is actually worth. I hear there are sites where you can sell your higher-end knives, but I understand they usually charge for the service and I haven't tried any of them yet.

Although I've only bought a few knives off of eBay, I used to buy a lot of other crap over there. Currently, though, I just buy from a dealer here--after a few years of doing the auction thing I got tired of the whole bidding process. I did sell a few knives over there and did pretty well with them, but really don't look at eBay much anymore. Never had a real bad deal, though.
