bought an imported schrade

I think I'm going to take a look at some of the Colts in the near future. The quality of the Rough Riders may be good, but they just haven't hit the right chord with me yet. I hope you find what you are looking for. There are lots of great slipjoints out there including the USA Schrades which are still available now and then.

i bought 2 benchmade expensive made in china last year & the tolerances were as close as most custom knifes. these retailed about 75$ & i thought the knives were a bargain. i firmly beleive that if given enough profit & inspection guidelines the chinese can make as good a knife as anyother place in the world.dennis

I agree with you Dennis. I also believe that decent knives can come from China and be very nice. It all depends on what they are contracted to do, what materials are used, and the Q&C is monitored more.

I think we can now put the discussion about whether China is capable of building an excellent knife to rest (and get back to actually just discussing the knives rather than the country of origin).

The fact is that anyone who thinks that a nation can host the Olympics, build and support a military, put satellites into orbit and yet not have the ability to build a pocket knife is sadly deluded (politics and all other extraneous issues aside).

So, let's get back to evaluating the knives and leave the rest for the current events or political forums. Thanks.

regardless of what country makes the knife you bought.

they go by specs supplied by the manufacturer or designer.

i bought some cheap winchester branded knives from walmart and the fit and finish isn't the best but they come very sharp and lock up very tight, they are very inexpensive lockbacks and i use them quite a bit.

plus if you buy a very cheap knife don't worry about it so much it was cheap, either take it back or learn to not buy from that brand again.

Hallmark cutlery is pretty good imports also. They took over kissing crane brand(imports have red shields) and the chief line. I have a chief copperhead and kc jack both have good edges with decent retention and above average fit and finish imho. Also Buck has brought all there slippies back to the U.S. !

The only imported Schrade I have (the only Schrade for that matter) is a 3OT small lockback in Buffalo Horn 3" It isn't too bad, actually I've grown to like it more. The horn had this weird 'bubble' like marks around the pins, not cracks but something odd that put me right off. However, Lemon oil and carry sweat..seems to have made them disappear:D No blade wobble at all and a very good backspring/tang line up no crude gaps or raised spring.

The only reason I got it was that e-bay dealers were demanding 80USD for the original brown delrin USA models which seemed over the top for a modest knife. The Chinese version was about 10USD.
