Bought my 10th ESEE yesterday, a bit surprised.

I don't think I've seen anyone not like any of the models. I'm sure if you tried to baton with a 3 you could run into trouble. But some of us esee 3 fans don't have a need to baton. But I'm sure ill end up with the bigger ones anyway because I liked them and want them. :p

So, I love my 4. Should I not buy a 3 and because it would ruin my relationship with my 4?

The HEST is ok, I keep it in my SHTF pack. My Izula is never far away. I really like my 6 more than I thought I would but the more I use my 4 the more I like it. If I;m in the woods, my 4 is on my side.

I was thinking about getting a 3 but I feel I would be cheating on my 4.

I have two 3s and have never bothered to get a 4. I always plug the 3 around here while people sing praises to the 4... The 3 is a knife that cuts and cuts well. I use mine in the kitchen as much as anything else, it's a slicer for sure.

It's also a pleasure to carry on account of its lightness. I actually often even throw it in on my alpine backpacking trips as it's quite light and plenty of knife for about any occasion I can think of.

Gear shopping is all about trying different things and using what works best for you. When I got my first ESEE blade, I was torn between the 3 and 4. I handled both and chose the 4. 2 months later I got the 3 and Izula. The 4 is still my go-to knife but the 3 is definitely an excellent blade.

The 3 was my first ESEE knife. It's my favorite after the 6. Both live permanently on my pack and get played with often. :)

I bought a plain edge desert tan 3 yesterday, and wow was I surprised at how much I love this knife. I was under the impression that I would like the 4 way better than the 3, but the exact opposite happened.

Now I have two 4s that I don't see using. I won't be able to put the 3 down! I know, "cool story bro". I just wanted to share. :)

I had the same reaction. I got a 4 first and LOVED it, couldn't imagine needing another knife. Then I got a 3 and honestly, abandoned it thinking it was too thin but once I used it and started carrying it it quickly became my favorite knife.

Exactly the same for me. Got the 4 and thought it was just awesome. When I got my first 3 my reaction was 'wow this is thin,' but as soon as I started using it I never looked back. I sold both of my 4's on the exchange (I just wasn't using them) and now I have 4 3's in different flavors. The ESEE 3 is my favorite knife that I own. That's even after it sliced through the extensor tendon and one of the ligaments in my thumb :o

I really wished I hadn't opened this thread---I had just about convinced myself to buy a 4 insead of the 3.

Now I'm so confused....
