I am looking at a #12. They are quite cheap, and I would like to try one. Does anyone have any advice or tips? Or suggestions on which type to buy? Pretty much, just try to convince me, one way or the other.

I love mine. Aread you looking for carbon steel or the stainless? I find the stainless holds an edge a bit longer. It is still easy to sharpen.

Great knives for the money. I prefer the 10 for harder work, but the smaller versions are easier to carry as an edc. The 10 is a decently big knife.

Can't go wrong with either, and at that price, not too expensive to get more! Get both!

I am checking out the carbon model. And yeah, I can get both for, like, $30. I am debating doing it. I would carry it during Re-enactments. It is close enough to period.

I took a few of mine and burned the handles black. Without the logo, and with the blade patina they look even older. Now if they would only offer them with carbon steel sleeve and locking ring!

That settles that. I just put a 10 on order. Now, if I were to burn the handle, what would that do to integrity? Do you have pics of yours?

Let's see some Opinels! Give me something to look forward to!

This No9 is the only one I have handy at the moment.

I don't think you'll be disappointed - how can you be, you get a lot of knife for your money (especially with the No10;):D)

I love the number 7. I went to France last week, and I had to have a new Opinel. I took another 7, to be my oldie's companion, but I chose a more youthful and colorful handle.

You won't regret buying an opinel. No matter which model, or if stainless or carbon, they are the undisputed champion in the slicing business!

I cut my breakfast with these two a couple hours ago:)

They get on like a house on fire!

My constant edc that I never show in 'whatchu totin' is a No.7 It's my reliable locking knife, great geometry, very keen edge on my No. 7 in carbone. By constant I mean whenever I leave the house it's the companion always in the pocket to my main blade for that day if that says anything about how much I enjoy Opinels.

Some photos for ya

Only a small part of my flock of Opinels.

They do tend to flock, don't they? :)

I find these simple knives way compelling myself.

Here are my three-- olive wood No. 6, stained carbon No. 7, singed Garden No. 8 (with an outlier atop):

I'd envisioned the 'singe-ing' to result in a more uniform appearance....
