i've been acculminating knives now for about 2 years. i have about $1000 invested in them. i also have 5 multi tools.

i've never owned a SAK, even as a kid. finally broke down and bought a super tinker last week. i figured as a knife knut, i should own one.

now that i have it and carry it, i could kick myself for not having bought one years ago!!

its so much lighter than a multi tool and the blade on it is incredibly sharp. i dont carry my ka-bar dozier folder or my caly jr anymore...or my multi tool.

just an endura in my back pocket.

how come you guys never told me how versatile a SAK is? :D

i honestly think i could get rid of all my knives with the exception of:

Super Tinker
Howling Rat
Endura
Desert Jack (swamp rat)

i hope this isn't the start of a new addiction to SAK's ;)

Bill

Hi Bill

Well, at least SAK's are pretty cheap so it'll be a reasonably priced addiction! My EDC SAK is similar to yours and has come in handy on several occasions, even the corkscrew! IMO the one you've got has a nice balance of enough tools to be useful, but still compact and easy to carry. They're fairly easy to get a wickedly sharp edge on too.

Please let me know if you find a use for the hook, it's always been a mystery to me!

Chris

actually, i think i found 2 uses for the hook.

one is for pulling things....and the other is for SD. open the hook and place it between your middle and ring finger with the SAK in your palm. acts as a brass knuckle or as a comtech stinger!!

I'd never thought of using it as a knuckle, that's a pretty good idea. Wouldn't have thought it'd be that easy to deploy quickly though.

Chris

there really is a use for the hook.

In Europe and the middle east, shopping is often done in markets where you bring your own bags, or they give you little cheap ones with thin handles (similar to the flimsy plastic ones you get in supermarkets in the US. Many people do not drive to the market, and those little plastic handles anre not very comfortable to carry.

NOW do you see the use for the hook?

Ah! Now you mention it, I have seen shopping bag carriers for sale every now and then, they're a chunky plastic grip with a hooks underneath. I remember thinking they were a good idea at the time.

Looks like I might have an excuse to buy another SAk then! :)

Chris

Welcome to the world of SAK!

As time goes on, you will have a growing appretition for the sak's usefullness. Over the next few years there will come a time when the "other" knives you own will mean less and less.

Finally you will come to relize that a sak will do anything your other knives will do, but not vise versa. Your sak will become your EDC and you will sell off or give away most of the "other" stuff. Practicality will win.

Then you will enter the enlightened world of Sakdom. :D

hi bill_G, i had the same feeling than you couple of month ago.
I was looking for a folder with descent blade (not to small) and a saw to go camping...
And i discover the SAK trailmaster.
What else you could ask to a knife? (if you are not expecting fighting bear with it?)
i think the trailmaster should follow super tinker in your new SAK addiction !:D

Seconded on the Trailmaster. I have a Victorinox Rucksack, which is the same thing with a corkscrew instead of the Phillips screwdriver.

Chris

For years I looked at sak's as a joke or trinket. Then I got one. That was three years ago, I just don't go anywhere without a sak anymore.

Now that your downsizing your collection,

I'll take all your Benchmades for a reasonable dollar:p

Grats on finding another Usefull knife to use, I do not own a sak or will, but i can see the value some people place on them easy enough.

But, yeah, send all your un-loved BM's to WarRaven.:D

I bought my first SAK 26 years ago, a Huntsman. I still have it and use it daily. I just bought my second SAK, a Bundeswehr marked One Hand Trekker. Very nice knife! Three of the blades/tools lock.

I just picked up my 4th SAK, an Alox Solo. Metal handle with a large blade, nothing else. My favorite SAK is my black Compact. I carry it all the time.

Now try an alox model like the Soldier or Farmer. :) My favorite is the Cadet.

I carry the Victorinox Alox Bantam wherever I go and in the woods it is the Alox Farmer with the saw.

They do not scare the sheeple. I sometimes I also carry a Delica, but no one sees that one. :D

Hey Bill, I carry the Spartan with me everywhere. I saw an ad in Outside Magazine last month that had a picture of the Spartan, I couldn't wait until Christmas, so I ordered myself a couple of them. Now I have the Pioneer, Soldier, Cadet, Sportsman II, and now the Spartan.

Ive used the blunt "edge" on the hook as a sort of scraper on occasion, you know for paint, adhesive residue etc.
I carry a SAK Explorer as EDC & also have a really beat-up Huntsman that has broken scales, reground blades after theyve broken at the tip, but I just cant get rid of it. One of the scales, the one with the Swiss emblem on it, has a huge chunk missing out of it so I er...filled it with Araldite Epoxy, filed & sanded to fit. Not pretty, but it works!
