Bought my first SAK

For me, SAK's are one of the best collectible knives. Quality knives at inexpensive prices- I have both users and drawer queens. I haven't had a chance to count what I have, though.

Some of my SAK's are the NASA SAK or Master Craftsman model, a Victorinox Soldier with my birth year on it (Soldier models have production years imprinted on them, I HAVE to HAVE a Soldier with my birth year on it!), a Tiffany Silver Classic, a Safari model, a Stayglow Climber with GITD scales... a bit too many if I go on!!!:D

What took you so long? SAKs are a cure for big-buck knives..:p

Amen to that. I haven't lusted after an $80 tactical folder since I started buying SAKs. They satisfy the knife kneed at a low low price.

I get paid every two weeks, on Fridays. Each time I get paid, I go get a new knife or two. The following Friday, I don't have much money left in my "buy fun stuff" fund, as what I have left is for gas, food, etc... SAKs are a great mid-biweekly fix.

SAKs go anywhere, do anything, weight nothing, take up no space, don't scare the sheeple, are cheap and easy to replace, and are indestructable.

Gotta love 'em.

Sort-of OT but I remember being told that the hook was for carrying packages that were stacked and bound with twine, like they do the baked goods at Entenmann's. I wonder if MacGuyver ever used the hook to repel down a line or something. So many uses those SAKs! :)

Does anybody know which SAK MacGuyver carried?

you've been SAKdomized mate. Now you can start your collection!! I'd go with a super or deluxe tinker. I think they're the best edcs to have or a one handed trekker

Bill G,

Welcome to the world of SAK's. They are great.

Head over to Knifeforums and join up the SOSAK forum. Also check out www.sosakonline.com

I have about 10 SAK's and love them all. The Super Tinker is one of the best choices. Great snag! :)

Welcome to the world of SAK!

As time goes on, you will have a growing appretition for the sak's usefullness. Over the next few years there will come a time when the "other" knives you own will mean less and less.

Finally you will come to relize that a sak will do anything your other knives will do, but not vise versa. Your sak will become your EDC and you will sell off or give away most of the "other" stuff. Practicality will win.

Then you will enter the enlightened world of Sakdom. :D

I couldn't agree more!

IMO, the Super Tinker and Soldier (and it's cousins) are the best EDC SAKs, and damn near the best EDC knives.

I usually carry something in addition to a SAK, but I really don't need to.

Here's a quote from Wikipedia's MacGyver entry:
MacGyver's Swiss Army Knife went through a few changes over the early episodes. His first and most often used knife was a "Tinker" model from Victorinox. In "Thief of Budapest" he gives it away; in the next episode he is using a "Traveler" model from Wenger. He is soon back to his "Tinker." At one point he uses an Orange Peeler blade; probably from a Victorinox "Executive." He may have used an older model "Explorer" from Victorinox later in the series.

I know he mostly used the Tinker during the first season except for once when he used the Wenger Traveller (featured during the opening credits of all the episodes) and he used an executive's orange peeler twice. In the later seasons he was either using a Spartan (two layer) or a Climber (three layer). He only used the scissors twice during his 7 years. He only used the Tinker's phillips twice and that was on the same show: season 3 part 2 of "The Killing Zone".

I know way too much about MacGyver. But my little boy was born when I was 40 and I went through the whole series with him when he was 7 and 8 and we were looking for those details. At least that's my story.

Bill, you have joined the world of the SAKaholics. I think theres a 12 step group if things get out of hand. The Deluxe Tinker is a great little knife too and as I already said the One handed models are a nice change.....paul
