12-26 I ordered the adventure medical SOL and the suunto clipper. they arrived 12-28. pretty damn good so far.
the suunto rocks. i've never seen a button sized compass zero north so quick, and without needing a wiggle or a perfect level. it glows powerfully too. i was standing in daylight and i turned, the shade of my body casting on the compass and it just lit up. very glad i got this one.
this premade kit, for a change, looked respectable enough to pay $20 for and i was really curious about the heat sheets, so i went with it. i also have a glass mirror with rubber taped backing, the one included is the mini polycarbonate type. duct tape's always good. the whistle is loud. 20mm compass will do the job, also better than most button compasses, but still not close to the suunto. four pieces of tinder-quick, better learn to start fires without it before your fourth fire. strike anywhere matches and fishing kit, neither of which i'm likely to ever use. waterproof bag. not a bad kit, you could do better on your own for less money, but it's all servicable.
i'd say just go for the heat sheets and the suunto. add a mag block, swisstool, a roll of natural twine for tinder and cordage, some container, and your hatchet and you're good to go.
