Bougth a new pair of OTB

I know a few of guys that wear OTB boots and have not heard one of them that has had anything bad to say about them. I am going to get a pair myself in the next couple of months.

R.A.T Thanks saw your post about the OTB Jungle boots Like!! When to a site and found them O.D / Blk size 12. Thanks for the info.

Great boots for Stateside use. Worthless as a real jungle boot.

so what boot would you pick for the jungle....I know you've answered this before but i can't remember.

The soles hold mud as bad as a hiking shoes. The fabric drain vents are useless. I got a black palm thorn through the vent into my foot. Would not have happened with the brass vents in Altama boots. Just goes to show that people design stuff without ever really testing it.

On that same line, the Katadyn Hiker water filter was complete trash after pumping 3 gallons of water. It's suppose to pump 200 gallons before changing the filter. It was plain useless after 3.

On the bright side I liked to Bumble Bee knife was great. Sheath plain sucks but the knife is great.

I hate buying something more than once. But sometimes you have to in order to find what really works. I've had some gear for decades and others didn't last one trip.

I'd been looking at OTB, but I think I'll keep looking.

Thanks Jeff!

Don't get me wrong, I love the OTBs for stateside use. Great boot for that. Just NOT a jungle boot.

I'm glad to know that, I was planning on buying some but I'll just stick with Altama's. Thanks for the info!

We had the same issues with the Oakley and Converse tactical boots, great, extremely comfortable and durable for stateside use, as soon as you get em in the sandbox the hot sand melts the soles. Total wakeup call after dropping 160 dollars on combat boots that weigh as much as a pair of light runners...

we have red clay where I go into the woods that stuff sticks to everything....I have contimplated boots with no lugs.....like mucks....but then no traction.....don't know what i want ....I'll just keep trying til i find something that works

Thanks for the reviews Jeff. Was the water you filtered with the Katadyn muddy? A lot of people claim that you have to prefilter it, but you don't always have that luxury. I just assume getting all the dirt out you can will only extend the life of the filter.

I noticed that the "Jungle" and "Desert" boot from OTB are the same design albeit different colors. Aren't these two very different environments?

Love the honesy in performance..I ll save my money and get a new pair of Altamas for warm weather outdoor use.

I'm sure there are some (maybe small) differences in the materials. I think the reason the design is the same (just different colors) is because of the design philosophy of the OTB Boots. They've got Wet-Boots, Land Boots, and the Jungle/Desertlites kind of bridge the gap between the two. They're designed to get water out of the shoe as quickly as possible, and it works backwards with letting air in.

So, hypothetically, in the jungles this will let extra water leak out and your boots can dry quicker. In the desert, this will let air circulate easier in the boot, and evaporate sweat. Supposedly the small mesh screens won't get caught like brass ports, and rip out, and will keep out all but the finest dirt. And apparently blackthorns. Yikes.

I've got a pair of the Desertlites on order now, should be here in a couple days. I can post my impressions if anyone wants info. I know it's hard to find stuff on the Jungles/Deserts.

Hey, Jeff, if you're really displeased with them, have you emailed their Customer Service? They seem to work really hard at making people happy. One of the guys on the other forum had a pair fail on him, and they worked really hard to make it right. It's worth a shot.
