Boulder Lake, Trinity Alps Backpacking

Looks like a lot of family fun with beautiful scenery! Thanks for sharing the pics!

It's a serious wilderness with very little maintenance and signage. I could see how someone could lose the trail and end up in serious trouble. I always travel with my Garmin Oregon 650T just in case I get lost. At 7 ounces it's a worthy luxury item.

Good stuff C2c  Doesn't look like the cool weather phased those kids one bit

Did you give those logs a shot?
That big log on the fire was dragged in and it was being dried on the side of the fire for almost a full day before we started burning it. I feel like when it's that wet, one soaked log can put your fire out. I had split some smaller logs In half to access the dryer insides but none shown in the pics. The fire you see was about 3 hours before we packed up. We had gone through most of our big pieces and were deciding whether to do another wood run or call it. The snow never stopped so we packed up. That BB13 is such a beast though.

Kudos to you for being prepared and for showing others how to be self-reliant in nature. I'll bet your brother-in-law--and kids!--won't soon forget that lesson.

I've gotten looks even for wearing a B8 for off-trail day hikes--some think it's overkill. But if a storm rolls in or someone becomes incapacitated, being able to fashion shelter and gather/process firewood quickly is the difference between being inconvenienced or being in danger of hypothermia--or worse. Those who haven't been there just don't know.
Spot on, man!
