Bourbon shopping...

My bottle of Wild Turkey (101 proof) is nearly gone, so I decided to shop for more bourbon on Saturday morning. I ended up with another bottle of Wild Turkey (but the larger 1.75 liter bottle), a Buffalo Trace (90 proof), and Old Forester "Signature" (100 proof).

I just read that Old Rip Van Winkle bourbon is made by Buffalo Trace, so I am thinking to open that as my next bottle of enjoyment.

Try Pappy Van Winkle 15 year Reserve. Four Roses Single Barrel may be the best value on the current market.

Funny you brought this up, I was searching through my liquor cabinet last night trying to find something to drink when I found a bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed I forgot I had! :D I do need to try some other bourbons but need to finish a few bottles of other stuff first.

I have two handles (well, 1 1/2) of WT 101 sitting on the shelf too...awesome bang for the buck :D:thumbup:

I've been meaning to try Buffalo Trace for awhile but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it when you get around to it.

I paid $20 for the 750ml bottle of Buffalo Trace. I am really itching to sample it.

Pappy 20 year old scored a 99 out of 100 in the Bourbon Olympics!!!!

Melts in your mouth. . . not in your liver!

Tasty!!!!!

I'm a big fan of the Wild Turkey. But, do yourself a favor and buy some of this stuff... it is very, very smooth with fantastic flavor.

Never bet against Jerry B ... when it's whiskey/whisky, cigars, or steel.

I've never been lucky enough to actually find a bottle. But I've had a glass or two, and it's liquid gold.:thumbup:

Four Roses Single Barrel is pretty darned good, though. As is the Ridgemont Reserve above. I've had a reasonable amount of both and would happily partake of more.:D

I have never heard of some of these. Enjoyed reading, my last favorite bottle of bourbon was from Pavillions, and cost about 23.00 excellent flavor hot under the nose.

I've only known Bourbon for the majority of 2009 but I've tried over a dozen different ones and find I love the Wild Turkey series.

If you liked 101, also think about staying in the family. I can tell you the Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit is phenomenal. I have a bottle of American Spirit downstairs that hasn't been opened yet but Im expecting great things from it.

Also can't go wrong with Bookers, it has incredible flavor behind the warmth....though I'll be prepared the next time I have a double Bookers. Damn, that first sip is an eye-opener if you didn't read the bottle first, LOL

Jerry would look good, real good in a pink velvet jacket.

BTW, Jerry won't let Barb-B-Q near any whiskey bottles. Don't ask why!

It's incredibly hard to beat the Van Winkle 12yr Lot B, or the 15yr - two of the best bourbons anywhere for any price; of course, the 10yr 107 proof is nice too, as is the 20yr.

And while they are currently made using the Buffalo Trace facilities (all except for the 20 and 23 yr, that is), that's quite not the same as literally being made by or actually being related to Buffalo Trace the company or the bourbon... the Van Winkle family (Julian and Preston) are a very large part of the taste. Taste-wise, WLWeller Bourbons are more similar (being wheaters, also currently from the BT facilities, but once made by Pappy Van Winkle when he was Master Distiller for Stitzel-Weller).

I love bourbon (and rye), and stock 20 different ones in my bar, and five of the twenty are Van Winkle products (four bourbons and the one rye). Great great whiskey in my opinion.

I loaded up on 10 yo Rip Van Winkle this weekend (I spent over $500 at the liquor store on Bourbon and Rye). Apparently, Van Winkle only ships twice a year and in limited quantities, so I bought while it was available. Lots of people like the 15, but having tasted the 10, I'm quite satisfied to stick with it. I have one bottle of 12 yo Lot B, but haven't opened it yet.

Thank you! I have two bottles on the way.

Man, oh man. The place from which I ordered two bottles of the bourbon that Jerry recommended (Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve) last night is now sold out, so I may have snagged their last two bottles.

It was about $100 per bottle after shipping ($89.99 each plus $22.32 shipping), but for something that is rated 99/100, it's a bargain.

Whew! I am glad that I found those bottles last night.
