Funny, a friend of mine just suggested Booker's.I haven't been dissapointed with Booker's.
Man, oh man. The place from which I ordered two bottles of the bourbon that Jerry recommended (Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve) last night is now sold out, so I may have snagged their last two bottles.
It was about $100 per bottle after shipping ($89.99 each plus $22.32 shipping), but for something that is rated 99/100, it's a bargain.
Whew! I am glad that I found those bottles last night.
That's a very good price. The Louisville Liquor Barn (chain) received shipments of Van Winkle in last week and they had 10 yo for a $27.39 (I bought 16 bottles between two stores), 15 yo and 12 yo Lot B for a little under $50, 20 yo was just under $110 and they had 23 yo Pappy for about $220 (I'd found it at 2 other shops previously, but they both wanted $300).
I bought my first bottle of 10 yo Rip Van Winkle a couple weeks earlier for $36.99 (+ tax) at a different store, so I was quite happy with Liquor Barn's prices, but it sounds like you did even better on your 20. As I've said, I really like the 10 yo, and at that price I don't feel guilty for drinking it.
As long as there is alcohol, I have no drinking problem.
I don't know how it rates against some of them, but I just finished a bottle of Bulleit Frontier Whisky. Very yum!
Cheers,
