Bow Drill question for Colorado folks

Wanna try to make a bow drill fire in Colorado. What wood should I use? Around here we are pretty much limited to spruce, fir, pine, and aspen. Anyone had any luck with these?

Aspen is your best bet, out of the ones listed. Cottonwood works well. You can use willow as well. We have all those here. I'm in the Denver area.
