Bow Legged Chopper Order Thread

After looking at what you have for sale, I'm honestly not sure. I couldn't find the actual web location of the material I was referring to last night, but did manage to figure it out this AM. Here is what I was talking about:

Of these three pairs, I really like the one on the right.

I'll be doing some more twists in the next few days. We may get lucky and you migh like what I come up with, if not we can discuss specifics of making something similar to what is in that photo.

The patterned stuff is a bit problematic n the sizes that are needed for this project, but I will give it my best shot! When I have a chance, I post some pics of some things I have on hand that are the right size for BLC.

Many Thanks JC!

-Todd

Edit to Add the pic of the camos I did a little while back.

I will be making up some plain natural tan as well as some flat laid camo based on the multi cam, that will have some glow dust added.

The pics below are to serve as examples of what different flat laid laminates look.

The twists above a seperate deal that I will be happy to discuss with who ever wants to.

#1 "marlap", same colors and approximate proportions as the Marine digital (linen like burlap) random layers

#2 is ACU color burlap tan, gray, green (linen like burlap) repeat layers

#3 is 5 color canvas repeat layers

#4 is 4 color camo burlap (linen like burlap) repeat layers

I hope this is a good place to discuss this, Andy. Let me know and I can bring this up somewhere else, if need be.

I also happen to have a 4 x 6 bit of black and coyote brown burlap 3/8" thick that would be cool too. If anyone is interested, please let me or Andy know and we will work it out.

Thanks,

-Todd

Those look FANTASTIC!!! Please carry on with discussing it right here!

Shadetree is working up a multiple tone brown layered burlap micarta, with glow powder, for me. Todd is great to work with and I think he will be posting the colors and proportions here.

First off Andy, I have your sheet of burlap out of the mold. I just need to trim the edges and it will be ready to ship.

Regarding Brian and I's discussion, here is what I have on hand just now:

the following are linen like burlaps, except for the light natural:
brass (almost spot on to coyote brown), olive, light natural burlap, dark brown, gray, natural, white:

To go 1/4" will require about 10 layers.

I can either just repeat the 5 colors twice (all except the white and light natural).
Or I can do double layers. Or course I can omit or stack as you please.

Either way, I will stack it so that the lightest colors are on the outside, opposite the "liner".
EG, dark brown, brass, olive, gray, natural, with perhaps two extra layer of the light natural on the outside.

For the liner I would suggest using either the white or light natural with one of the other colors that you like. This should take 5 layers to get about 1/8".

Of course glow powder will be added throughout the stack. .

Wow Todd, these are going to turn out great. I'm not sure of the ordering of layers, but I really like samples 1 & 4 in your layered micartas in a few posts back, and would like something like those (random?). I would not use the grey, but maybe use more olive interspaced between layers (kind of in place of grey). I would like to use the light natural for the liner, but I'm not sure what you mean by "and one of the other colors" of your last post. Do you mean you would alternate or do you mean you would add a layer between the natural and dark brown? Thank you for all your work.

Andy, I was talking to Spen at JRE yesterday about the Bow Legged Chopper. I told him he could use mine to make sheaths from, so anyone that wants a sheath from JRE won 't have to send in their knife.

Yes. Thanks too!! I spoke to them a few minutes after you did. This is going to save me having to send the passaround knife in to them for a pattern, and I very much appreciate it. You want me to put a free mosaic pin in your knife as payment? I'm willing.

My pleasure, Brian.
These will come out similar to #1 above, esp if we go with the single layers, see below.
Regarding the liner, we can go all light natural or possibly 3 layers of light natural with two of the green (for example, we can use any color you like). I thought it might add a bit more interest, but it is not necessary at all. Sorry for any confusion I have caused.

Here is the latest, two options; single layers and double layers, same order in both:
the light natural layers (5 total) were cut off the left side; dark brown, brass, olive, natural, olive.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks again,

Beautiful work Todd. Can we do 4 layers of of light natural with one layer of olive between the light natural an brown in the liners. Thanks.:D

Damnit, I can't make up my mind. Andy, I think you're going to have to give me a deadline:D I work better under pressure:rolleyes:

The deadline for choosing handle materials, as requested, is today at 6:09. Everyone who does not choose by then gets stabalized dog shit.

Andy, what is an approximate time frame for these? I just am trying to plan my purchases and don't want to get to deep.

Consider it done.
Don't thank me, thank you:)

PM Sent...we can figure something out, I am sure.

Harsh! :D

Well, I ordered 10 blades waterjetted yesterday. (Along with 127 of my other models!!!) Then I'll probably do three a month after that max. The Las Vegas show is in September. I'll need three for that. Realistically I'm estimating 6 months. Less for the first couple.

LOL. I saw and handled a knife at Blade Show that was wearing stabalized elephant shit....:barf:

Dude, I might have to roll up to Vegas for that show.

I'm seeing a vision. ...It's the floor of a casino aka my bed until they throw me out. Hookers, gambling and booz oh my!

I can see this playing out at the Vegas show.

*picking up the knife*
Customer: This is a really interesting handle. What is it?

Andy: boudreaux over osage.

Customer: boudreaux? is that a synthetic material?

Andy: Nope. It's natural. Very hard to find though. Only one source in Georgia. It can be harvested daily though, so I don't run out of it.

Customer: I know this sounds strange, but it has a very familiar smell to it.

LOL

:eek:That sounds kind of slippery. I'd think you'd want a grippy handle material on something this massive:jerkit:

And for me, as we discussed earlier, the orange on the inside and black showing scales with hollow pins please....Just in time for Halloween:D
