Im pretty much a straight novice(ask L6steel) but here's the situation. I just ordered some 1095 from Admiral and the flats I got are bowed I guess the question I'm asking is this going to affect any part of the knife making process and if so what can I do about it?

Admiral can sometimes be a little sloppy about how they ship their steel, though it is usually in hard cardboard tubes. Thin steel stock is often bent a little. What I do is just straighten it out before I start profiling and grinding. A little coaxing will usually get it straight again.

You aint kiddin!!! Even the 3/16" by 1 1/2" bar stock I get from Admiral is usually bent. Just do like Jerry says, Eric, straighten it first by flexing it in the direction of the bow. It is suprising how easy the stuff bends.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!
