Bowie blade!

I want a bowie bad, and I got some cash to spend. I've been looking at the cold steel, Ontario, down under, and a few other factory brands that just don't tickle my fancy. I can spend up 250 dollars for something "custom", or a brand I am missing. I might be able to do 300 if it's my dream bowie!

What do y'all recommend?

Take a look at the new Bowie from Traditional Filipino Weapons. $285 but TFW makes really quality stuff, I have several of their blades myself.

Wood handle, 5160/D2 blend steel, 12 1/4 inch blade, 18 inch overall length, sharpened along the back edge of the clip point, comes with a sheath.

The Western brand W49 Bowie is nice - fleabay usually has a few in various conditions, from collectible/new to users.

A.G. Russell usually has a few nice designs on his site as well.

Between Cold Steel and Ontario, I'd have thought you'd found something you'd like. If not, then go to sites like atlantacutlery and kultofathena for production knives. Dlttrading for Bark River and Blackjack knives. Also arizonacustomknives for custom made pieces. As well as on this forum, check out the knifemaker's for sale listings, some nice ones there too. You might be able to find a nice custom piece for less than $300. We might be better able to point you in the right direction if you specified what kind of bowie you're looking for. Traditional or modern, for instance. With guard or without. Full sandwich tang or hidden tang. TOPS makes some nice modern designs, big heavy knives.

That is very nice. I was checking out their swords also. I may just have to start budgeting for one of these. Bowie knives are really cool, but for me, I would never use a blade like this outdoors. So, it might as well be pretty!

Your price range is way too low for a custom bowie; you should be thinking $600-700 minimum. Consider a Becker 7 or 9 as a base model; there are many ways to customize them to suit you, and you're already starting with a quality blade.

May I suggest to take a look at knifemaker Kevin Hoffmann's site.
He is located in Savanna, GA.
Nice gentleman, I can highly recommend

They are very nice, the quality is truly amazing considering the price. Cold Steel's swords are in the same price range, and these are far, far better, better fit and finish, better edge(TFW comes quite sharp), better balance too. I have the ginunting, pira cotabato, kris #4, Visayan barong, kambantuli, and panabas(as well as the ironwood flat stick and both a long and short staff). Coming from someone who absolutely hates spending more than $150 on a blade(and generally won't pay more than that), that should give you an idea how pleased I am with their stuff. There's quite a few other things they have that I want as well, including the Bowie, though in truth, I'm more likely to grab the laring, banyal, or Visayan binagon first.
