Bowie- damascus and Ironwood

Hi Folks-



Here is another one to share. This knife originally had a Walrus ivory handle, but unfortunately it cracked. Due to a tough year, I didn't have time to rehandle it until last week. Even though the Ironwood is not technically as fancy of a material as Ivory, I actually think the overall look and feel of the knife is nicer with the new handle.


Blade is forged from mosaic Ws pattern 1084/15N20
Guard and spacer were formed from two pieces of a twisted Ws billet.
I wanted to have a line cut and fluted spacer, but have it flow with the guard rather than but up to a plate guard. This was a lot harder (for me) to do, but IMHO is a detail that helps with the overall flow
Handle is premium Ironwood with a domed 416 pin

I have seen a pic of this knife with the ivory handle, and while it may strike some as counter-intuitive, I agree that it looks better this way. Terrific piece. I'm sure the owner is smiling.

Nice Damascus, and the guard and spacer really make that knife. Just wonderful. And there is NOTHING wrong with a great piece of ironwood like that. Beautiful.

Like Kevin, I am curious about the flattened top and bottom areas on the handle. I think it makes the lines of the knife really stand out, but I wonder how it feels in the hand. Was that sonmething the customer requested?

I remember this piece from San Antonio and I have to agree the faceted ironwood really sets this piece off. Nice save, Nick:thumbup:. I love the detail work on the guard. The fine lines and transitions from flats to curves makes my head spin with how much time you must have put into this knife. Beautiful work.
