Bowie- damascus and Ironwood

Dang Nick, Another Beauty.
I really like that pattern in the steel and guard.
The coined spacers is a nice touch.
Handle's not bad either.

That is REALLY a nice piece of ironwood....on a terrific knife!

I had the opportunity to see this one with the cracked walrus...what a heartbreak! The knife looked great with the ivory, though of course ivory can't be contoured the way wood can. Just a different look.
This new handle really allowed Nick to "go to town" with the shaping

Excellent save!

Bill

AWESOME!! one of the nicest pieces I'v seen in a longtime!! A great addition to any collection and a knife I would like to own.

Love it, the blade looks electrified!!

Please do explain your thinking on the handle flats.

Thank you guys :)

Joe, it's tiled W's... I like tiling because there is such little waste compared to an accordian cut billet.

Kevin, it actually is pretty common for me. I first started doing it on bowies, the type with a plate guard and spacer, about 10 years ago. My first few attempts were done in scrap wood and I didn't care for the it... BUT... Once you figure it out, IMHO it makes for not only a neat visual affect, but also an indexing feature. I like how it feels... but I'm sure my opinion is biased ;) LOL So you'd have to ask some guys like billf that have a knife of mine with that shape of handle. :D

In the following video, I was showing how I do it--- but if you fast forward to 10:06 or so, I explain and show WHY I do it. :)

Thank you guys!!! :)

Now I want a Wheeler with a faceted handle damit :)

Nick you truly are a talent my friend

Thanks for the explanation, Nick.

I remember asking Karl Andersen about some flats on a handle he did a couple years ago and he said the same thing: indexing.

Bummer about the cracked handle. I bet it is just a punch in the gut to loose a nice piece of material like that, but I have to say, as others, that handle looks fantastic like that.

Blade shape, guard and spacer, and topped off by a fantastic handle... Nick, probably my favorite of yours of all the ones I've seen! And while a rounded handle may seem to be intuitively more comfortable, the flats right away pointed to a better indexing... Love that handle! (the wood's nice, too! :D )

[Now... how about one with a W2 steel and Hamon swirling back up across the clip?!?!?!;) LOL!!!!]
