This has no wilderness value whatsoever, but I like this forum so I'm doing my giveaway here. Mods can move it if they so chose (as if I have any say!).

I'm giving away a hand forged Bowie. Crazy? Well, maybe. Why? For some reason I just never connected with this knife.

I thought about selling it but it has a couple small flaws: 1) the blade has a slight warp to it. It is very slight and hard to demonstrate, so you'll just have to take my word for it. 2) The handle is mostly gorgeous, but the super-glue varnish has a discoloration in a couple spots so it isn't cosmetically perfect. Otherwise a nice knife. The handle is fairly big, and I generally like that. Blade is just over 7" from hilt to tip. Blade is sharp and shaves.

I think it would be a great knife for a re-enactor. Some pics:

Here's the contest:

I'm grilling brats this evening and step one is to put a cast iron pan on the grill with the brats and some beer in the pan. (Hey, this could work in camp as well, so maybe there is some wilderness value here.) To win this Bowie, you need to guess the beer I'm using to cook the brats in.

The brats:

The RULES:

1. You must be 18 years-old and legally able to own a Bowie knife

2. First person to correctly guess the beer wins the Bowie.

3. The guess must be specific, e.g. Corona Light. (I know, Corona Light isn't really a beer, but it's just an example.)

4. One guess per W&SS member per day

5. I'll cover shipping if you also post your favorite Brat recipe.

Bon Appetit!

Guinness (regular, not extra stout).

Now I want sausages!

I'll go with something unusual for the recipe - this is 'Mentor's bratwurst breakfast of champions', best enjoyed the morning after a night of cottage festivities, before a day of fishing.

1. The night before, throw a few extra potatoes on the BBQ when you're cooking your steak. When they are cooked, wrap them up and put them in the refrigerator.
2. In the morning, haul out the spuds and cut them up into home-fry-sized pieces. Also cut up one white onion, half a red pepper, and half a green pepper. Cut the peppers nice and small. Marvel at the sharpness of your knife while lamenting those last few [insert beverage here] you had the night before.
3. Take two bratwurst sausages. Use a nice scandi to slice into the wrapping, and dump the bratwurst interiors onto your cutting board. Cut them up. If it's past 7:00 am and you're at the cottage, open your first beer of the day.
4. Place your iron skillet on the stove and turn the burner to medium-high. Add a small amount of olive oil.
5. When the skillet has heated up, throw in the diced bratwurst and onion. Simmer for a few minutes, stirring regularly.
6. Add the diced peppers and potato. Keep stirring. Add a bit of beer for flavour. Let this simmer for a few minutes. Take the opportunity to clean off your knives - you don't want to find out what bratwurst does to carbon steel when it dries.
7. Add a generous dash of basil, oregano, and pepper. If you're feeling bold, throw in a few pinches of chilli powder. Turn the burner down and let it simmer. Don't let the peppers burn. When they are cooked, the dish is done.

Serves one (as a huge breakfast) or two (reasonable portions). Enjoy, clean up, then hit the lake for some fishing.

Thanks for the awesome contest!

Damn....Sierrra Nevada and Fat tyre were my first two choices.....

Rotte - you like your Koyotes and therefore you have good taste. I'm going to say that you grilled your brats in budweiser (you probably even got that lime crap budeweiser so you could use that as flavouring) .....But you are actually drinking Sam Adams :D

I'm a little low brow myself. Buck a beer - Lakeport here. Drinkable for a non-distinguishing palette. Ahw...yes there are better beers out there but sometimes.....every once in a while.....every once in a tiny tiny little while....quantity trumps quality :D PD

Nice pic KGD! You've got me more or less pegged, but no one's got the right beer yet. Hey if we ever get to meet up, I owe you a cold one just for posting that pic.
