Nice knife! What would be the reason you would do a framed tang like that rather than a standard full tang? I'm very new to knifemaking and still learning all the different styles.

On a knife with a full guard like this one, if you want to do a full tang, the tang/handle would have to be narrower than the ricasso so the guard can slide up to it's position. Some knives are done that way. This is just another way to do it. It's all about personal preference.

The "Baby Bowie" I have is too good to keep in a box. Worked real well on my mule deer.
