Bowie Knife

rusts! ewwwwwwww

you can't have any thing here

i live by BLACK WATER

you wanna see somthing rusts ahhhhhhhh

i need a knife that will not rusts

so carbon steel is bad i guss crap

For the best knife you can get within that price range, Carbon steel may be your only choice for a good knife. I recommend going with the becker 9" blade because it has a good coating, so water cannot contact most of the surface. If you want to buy a Cobalt alloy or titanium knife, be prepared to spend LOTS of cash.

ahhhhhhh

what about 440 steel?

440C isn't bad.....
It's much better than the quality of the other stainless steel blades you were looking at, BUT IT WILL still rust, yes, stainless will rust if you don't take care of it, but not nearly as bad as high carbon.
Entrek knives, again.

Also,
the SOG tigershark is made out of 440A, BUT they use a very good heat treat, so it isn't as soft as most of the "junk" knives

Oooops, they're using AUS 6, which is probably better than 440A.
(at least I assume so, since almost all 440 knives tend to be fairly cheap)

How about the Camillus/Western W-49 Bowie Knife?...It's a big one, and if you cut 1/2 off of the brass hand-guard from each side, it's a pretty good one.:).

15 years ago I bought a bowie made by "Western" from a Cabella's catalog. 9 1/2 inch blade, full tang, rosewood scales, brass s-curve guard. High carbon steel. It's still cuttin, strong! I think I spent $50 on it. Its a nice, big, sharp knife! holds a hell of an edge. I don't know if these are made anymore.

Duh-- I guess I should read before I post-- Now uncertanties are answered. It is an older Western W49 that I have and it has held up considerably well.

That's pretty much it. Actually Glockmann99 mentioned it before I did and even knew what he was talking about. It looks like the guards been altered like he mentioned as well.

Yup, that's the one...

For the price you can get it for that may be a knife worth looking at. If I remember correctly from previous eBay auctions, the knife is made in Pakistan. The steel is probably about as low quality as you can get, and I doubt that you will get much of a sheath with it.

If you can get it for $6.99 plus $6.50 shipping then it might be worth giving it a shot since you seem to be looking for as inexpensive a knife as you can get away with. Nothing wrong with that, but make sure that you don't have very high expectations. That way you won't be disappointed if it turns out to be a piece of junk.

That's for looking at not serious using. They are made for collecters. For that amount of money you can get a Becker or Ontario that are made for serious use.
