I was heavily influenced in making this by the more famous Moore Bowie which may have been carried by Jim Bowie himself. I kept the blade and guard along the original lines but changed the handle shape to more suit me. I was intrigued by the interesting fighting guard of the original and forged this one from steel which is intended to block and catch an opponent's blade. The blade is made from 1095 high carbon steel, differentially heat treated with an edge hardness of about Rc 60 and a softer spine of around Rc 50. This gives the very best in both edge holding and toughness for 1095. The blade is finished by packing with horse radish and wrapping in plastic for three weeks then the surface was lightly sanded leaving a nice modeled look. The handle is a nice selection of Koa wood and the knife comes with tooled brown leather sheath.
Specs:
1/4 inch thick 1095 high carbon differentially heat treated steel.
Koa Wood Handle
Blade Length 8 inches
Overall Length 13 inches
Guard and Pommel are made from mild steel
Brown tooled leather sheath (shown)
SOLD (Price was $240 plus 7$ shipping)
I take PayPay, major credit cards over the phone, money orders and checks.
Thanks,
