What would be the minimum size wood block you would start with for a large bowie handle?

May I suggest drawing out your plan (for yourself not me) and seeing just how everything looks proportionally? Do you own a knife? Look at it's handle and then measure it. Does it look "good" in relation to the blade and shape of the overall knife?

That said, a good handle size to play with is 5" to the bottom of the guard. So, your block should have a little extra. A 2" wide X 5-1/4" tall X 1-1/4" thick block should leave you with enough to play around with. Call Chuck at www.alphaknifesupply.com and he'll get you set up.
