So, I had this piece of wrought iron laying around the forge for years and always thought I wanted to try my hand at a punched guard (I have always machined the opening for the tang) now I had to make a knife deserving of this guard. 5160 seemed the only way to go so I forged the tang and fit the guard at heat and got an excellent fit.
5160 high carbon steel
Heat treated to Rc 58-60 with three normalizing and two tempering cycles for a fine grain structure
Flat grind with forge texture on the flats
Through tang with a wrought iron butt cap peened into place
Stabilized walnut handle
Overall length: 14 1/2 inches
Blade:9 1/2 inches
Blade depth at the guard is 2 inches
Weight: 1 pound 4 ounces
Leather scabbard with a belt loop large enough for a gun belt
