Since selling a large custom bowie i had, I've been itching for another. This time I would like to go the production route. I'm wanting it to be usa made, traditional or non traditional style, and I favor design over steel type. I'm heavily leaning towards a buck 119 from the custom shop, but was hoping to get some recommendations of other knives before I make that purchase. Thanks in advance for any help!

**this will mainly be used as a camp knife**

The custom i sold was damn near a short sword. I would say 8" blade and under. I apologize for vaguely using the term bowie. I mainly want one with a guard and wooden handle. Something along the "look" of a buck 119. The kabar is promising, but I'm not the biggest fan of stacked leather nor the molded handle material. The bark river suggestion was a good one, as I just looked up the vest pocket bowie and really liked it......clear as mud I know haha

I went vintage.

Picked up a Solingen; still sort of looking for a Sheffield.

Yea, I would say a smaller bowie. I've owned quite a few hunters, bushcraft knives, ect. But the one bowie I owned (the custom), seemed like it was just too big for me to use. I just want something I can use around camp, while being nice enough that I will want to keep it. I'm terrible about buying something practical, then selling it to buy what I truly wanted.

Randall 12-8? Or is it not "production" enough

I'd say give Bark River a hard look. They've come up with SO MANY bowie designs over the years. I think their fit and finish is very good, but probably not excellent, unless you luck out. But I feel like they capture "classic" pretty well in their bowies. And you can get your choice of handle materials and liners/spacers, so there's a custom element to the production knives. They have the Highwayman II coming out soon. It sounds like it may fit your needs.

Wow, just done with my girls bday party (1,4). These are all great suggestions. Hell half of them I've never seen! I have bucks and bark rivers (no bowies) so I have a general feel for fit and finish. Kabars would work great, but I'm wanting more of a wooden handle. I didnt even think about the randalls as I've always wanted one, just never dropped the $$. Really leaning towards a Randall or one of the various bark rivers now. These kinds of suggestions was exactly what I was looking for when posting this thread. I appreciate everyone's opinion.

Cold Steel's Trailmaster has always been a great knife.. It's 9.5 " long though... it doesn't come with wood handles, although I imagine any of our knifeworkers on here could put one on it for a reasonable price.

For something to use around camp, you won’t find anything more versatile than a Kephart. I know, you said you wanted a Bowie, but you also said what you wanted the knife for. If you check out Ethan Becker’s BK62 Kephart, you might find you don’t want a Bowie at all.
I've honestly been looking at the field buddy from The knife connection for this very reason. Haha
