Hello guys, I'm looking for a good Bagwell type Bowie that isn't the cost of a Bagwell type Bowie. I've searched and searched, but can only find cheap flimsy fantasy bowies from BUDK and places like that. Little help here?

A pic helps.

Not sure I follow 100%

You want a Bagwell style/Bagwell quality bowie, but you don't want to spend bagwell type money, but also don't want the cheaper options available because of quality concerns?

What exactly is your price range? Ontario did a full line of Bagwell's that were running around the $200 Mark give or take, but they are discontinued and hard to find. Bark River has their new line of Vest Bowies running around the $250 Mark, not true to Bagwell style, but a top quality bowie from a top tier company at a fair price.
Then you have Cold Steel Trail Master, Frontier, or Svord Von Tempsky Bowies which can be had for under $200, again, not true to Bagwell style, but quality bowies at the respective price point.

If you want true Bagwell, you'll have to pay for a true Bagwell, but if you don't want to pay for a true Bagwell, you will either have to find an alternative design or roll the dice and buy a cheap knockoff version, or hope you get lucky at a yard sale or flea market one day?

There was an Ontario Bagwell bowie that just sold here on the forum just about a week ago. It didn't last long either. Just keep an eye on the fixed blade fs forum you just never know what will pop up for sale there. Good luck on your hunt.

Gdog, even if a maker is famous in the particular style of blade they make, it's important to keep in mind that blade forums is populated by knife enthusiasts of every stripe, creed and knowledge level. Many of them aren't particularly interested in fixed blades, let alone a particular maker's style of bowie. That doesn't mean that any one of them might not have accidentally stumbled upon exactly what you're looking for and could help point you in the right direction with enough info to work from to start with. Try to keep that in mind when asking questions. It's a great forum with a ton of knowledge that people are happy to share.

On your original post, I believe I've seen Bagwell style bowies in the past in the knife maker's for sale section, so I'd start with a search in there. I wouldn't have connected those dots without gadunz's pic for what it's worth. You may not find one currently for sale, but you'd probably at least come up with some custom makers that could make you one. That may be your best option.

Maybe the Cold Steel Laredo would be something you might like. The problem you're going to run into is that the Bagwell style wasn't popular in production Bowies till the last 20 years or so, and was mostly the realm of Bagwell proteges. Also the C guard has never been popular on Bowies, even Bagwell wasn't really using till the last couple of decades.

Your best bet is to try the knife makers forums, and see if anyone would try it at a price point you're comfortable at. The Ontario Bagwells are an option, but they're edging up there in price, where going custom instead might be a good option.

Edit - Greg Covington is a maker that does really nice Bagwell inspired work, he's a member here.
