These blocks came from a redwood burl slab we collected on our recent burl hunting trip. This was an old piece that has been sitting around for the past couple decades.
This is much harder than normal redwood. Closer to maple in hardness. About the only visible flaws I saw were a knot in a few of the blocks. I didn't trim them out because there have been some requests for pieces like that.
It is hard to tell from the photos, but this wood has very tight swirling grain that looks like shimmering layers when you fine sand this type of redwood. Not to mention the compact, chatoyant burl figuring. These blocks would work great for larger knives or even folders where you need a lot of drama in a small space. I started to pick out the ones I liked best but the pile was getting too big. I'll leave it up to you guys to determine which ones are the best.
These photos show both sides of the blocks wiped with a damp cloth to give a better idea how they will look finished.
When you see blocks you want, just post "I'll take #s ...." and I will mark them sold for you. US shipping is $2.50 each or $10 for as many will fit in a flat rate box.
