I call this the Ranger Bowie because I see this basic shape associated with some of the mid-19th century Texas Rangers. I kept the blade in this knife on the thin side, 1/8” thick, because I’ve been told and have also read that many of the mid-19 century Bowies were thin to make them light, fast and easy to carry. I used ATS-34 for the blade steel even though stainless is definitely not period correct it is a great steel that is well known for its edge holding and the satin finish just looks like steel. The wooden scales are curly Koa wood that are bolted to the knifes full tang and guard is 410 stainless with sanded finish.
SPECS:
1/8 inch thick ATS-34 stainless steel heat treated to a hardness of approximately 60 Rc.
Handle is Koa wood with black spacers bolted onto knife's full tang with a 3/16" lanyard hole.
Blade Length is 8 inches from tip to Micarta with satin finish and file worked along the spine.
Overall Length is about 13.2 inches
Tooled heavy brown 8/9 leather sheath.
SOLD: Price $150 ship plus $8 shipped anywhere in US
I prefer PayPal (my account is kelley_ward2@agilent.com) but take other forms of payment.
Thanks,
