Bowies, Big Knives, And The Best Of Battle Blades

Did somebody mention Newt's SBB?

Someday I'm going to have one of Mr. Tichbourne's signature bowies.
His Wilderness bowie is really nice and about the same price as the Thor. The whole wilderness line is pretty tempting...

Ebbtide,

Good looking sheath!! :) I'd forgotten you got my #13. Oh well, I wound up with #2.

Larry,

The Ontario Hell's Belle does have a sharpenend false edge. The Fallkniven Thor is a wonderful camp knife, but not a fighter, though you could make do pretty well if you sharpened the false edge and understand different fighting styles with the Bowie. The CS Laredo has a much better balance for fighting, as well as that wickedly sharp false edge. As long as we're talkin' custom makers, Greg Covington has a deep understanding and appreciation of what goes into a fighting Bowie, and makes an excellent forged knife. We've had several discussions on the subject, and I've been to his shop for "show & tell" (lot of Bagwells between us). His knives are light, fast, well balanced, and designed with input from real world professionals. Keep an eye on this one, he's making quite a name for himself in certain circles!

Since I get to play with a lot of knives, I give you my two cents worth.
For a great factory knife, try the Tops version of the Armageddon designed by Trace Rinaldi. I love it!
If you can go custom, I'll agree with the post above. Jerry Hossom or the Jones brothers can make you a happy camper.
Any of these three will result in a knife you can keep for a life time and they all are worth every penny. Anytime I can get a knife and a few years later I can still say "I'm glasd I bought it!", I think the knife is worth suggesting to others.

These are obviously out of the stated price range, but probably worth saving your pennies. The way I think fighting Bowies should be made. And some of the most beautiful leather work around.
