Hey Guys...

Just picked up a box of bowling balls at an auction..

Got a really nice Baby blue one and a green and black swirled one and four black ones..

Anyone know if this material is solid all the way through ???

I believe it is,, but I'm not sure...

Wife says to me,,

"Tell me you didn't just buy a box of bowling balls??!!"

"What in the He77 are you doing to do with a box of bowling balls?"

"Why handle material for knives, What else?!" I say..

Wife..

"You don't even make knives!"

ROTFLMAO

Women,, Geez! Don't see a good deal if it's stareing them in the face!!

ttyle Eric..

Eric, I doubt they're solid, if you have a bowling ball, look inside, You will see that the plastic or urethane shell is only an inch thick at most... the inside is filled with some sort cement, and in some bowling balls there is also a weighted core to alter its tracking characteristics... BTW, I suck at bowling

Eric, do a web search find plans for a catapult, you know the size that uses bowling balls for ammo. Then download the files and show them to your wife she'll let up on you for the handle material.

I saw a post last year about using them for handles, heavy duty handle eh.

Eric, those bowling balls can be used to make engraving blocks. Cut a bowling ball in half. Put a drill press vise on it and place in a dog food bowl. Works great for checkering and carving knife handles.

Hey Guys...

Thanks for the help...
I'm going to put one on the band saw tomorrow and see what makes it tick..

The Vise and the Catapult Both sound like great ideas!

Bet I can kill a cow with one, the next farm over..

Hey Eric; A local maker here does make knife handles out of Bowling balls. They do turn out quite nice. Unfortunately the good part (the outer skin) is a relatively thin layer. I believe my acquaintance told me the majority of the ball is cork (?)

If I remember correctly he had a hard time cutting them with a band saw. He ended up using a table saw and it worked fine.

I believe Linder, a german factory makes or made dagger handles by turning billiard balls on a lathe.
I, for one, haven't seen a knife with a bowling ball material for scales.
Anybody got a picture?

Hey, aren't some knife BLADES made from bowling balls?

I'll stop there.

If the knife blade was made from a ball bearing, and the handle from a bowling ball. What would you call the knife?

I know, you could call it the "BOWING 2000" Has anybody cut one in half to see whats on the inside? It might look cool to leave a little bit of the skin on thehandle with the rest of the handle being black....Just my opinion....Bruce
