Box cutter edc?

For the record you can get ceramic blades for box cutters. Not sure how they hold up, but they're available on the market at large.

This is one of the Cold Steel Knives that I really like. It's unassuming, works as designed (great box cutter), Has a good price point and is workplace friendly.

Lenox OTF utility knife with their bimetal blades works for me. The handle is comfortable, carries extra blades, and does not fold. Just extend blade, cut, and retract when done. Blades are changed tool free, too.

Keep the pressure on the edge side and dont get choppy-twisty-slashy and your normal knife will be fine.

thanks for all the replies guys, I found a cheap liner lock box cutter at wallmart and picked that up. I'm considering adding the tuff lite to my line up as well though :P

I got a mini tuff lite among some stuff from my favorite knife store in BC. It's an excellent knife, and tough enough to be tactical if needed.

If you have large+ hands, the regular tuff lite will be more hand filling.

Look into the Rexford RUT. Little pricey but made of Titanium. Also has a flathead screwdriver and a bottle opener. Definitely a high quality build. I personally do not own one but I have heard a lot of raving reviews about them. A thread recently opened up about it.

Thanks.
I had a look on the wrap on my MISSION MBK-ti and took cues from that.
Its a very simple paracord wrap. Anybody can do it (if I can wrap a knife like that - anybody can)

Finally I see an ergonomic looking wrap. Nice!

This is a 2-year old thread. Just FYI if you are commenting back to some of the original posters from 2013.

This is just me, but I like to use my knives. It seems counterintuitive to carry a knife, then carry a box-cutter so that you do not wear out your knife. YMMV, but if it needs cutting, I am using the knife in my pocket to cut it. No box-cutter here.

I work in a warehouse environment and always need to cut open boxes. The problem with a folding knife (for me) is that it does take time to open and then close the blade. I'd like to use my regular knives but it is just easier for me to use a fixed blade box cutter. I have started to use my folders just to see how it does, but it will never beat the speed of a fixed blade box cutter in a sheath on my belt. For this I use a Mora Electrician. It keeps a good edge and it won't snap like a disposable blade will. Most of the disposable blades I've used get dull quicker than the Mora anyways. If speed didn't matter I'd use whatever bade I had, its made for use so why not use it.

Another thing, in my experience plastic (tape and shrink wrap used for wrapping pallets for shipping) dulls a blade MUCH quicker than cardboard, though I often hear about cardboard being what dulls a blade.

I work in a medical office. My EDC work kit includes a SAK and a Gerber EAB. The Gerber is a great carry if you wear slacks

I've gone through several folding box cutters through the years, until I got the Milwaukee Fastback. I still have it in my toolbox among some cheaper retractable box cutters. I've used it for 4 or 5 years now it seems, and never had a problem out of it. It's easy to open and close with one hand. I haven't tried the Fastback II which I understand is supposed to hold extra blades. True the blades dull out quick but when you're cutting tape and cardboard all day. I feel that most cutting edges are going to dull. Unless you get some premium steels, which will still dull out and who want's something with S30V or higher quality to use as primarily a box cutter? Not I. Whenever I knew I was going to be cutting a lot of boxes I usually had the Fastback and a Lightning OTF on my person, and would use both whenever needed throughout the day. If either one got beat to hell then it wasn't a big deal.

That being said, a Piranta Havalon might be a good box cutter. It's definitely easy to carry and deploy. But that thing might be too sharp for most. Especially when the blade is fresh. I think the CRKT Razel has an awesome blade for box cutting, but sharpening might be a pain over time. I've never used the Mora Electrician that FordRanger mentioned, but that thing definitely looks legit for the task.

I reprofiled the rather blunt point to a shape very close to a normal box cutter blade, which makes it puncture the cardboard/tape much easier. I'll try to get a picture or two tomorrow. Before that I used a Stanley fixed blade, but the slippery metal grip made it sort of scary to use fast. The Mora's grip is exactly the same as a Companion grip, so its plenty comfortable and grippy. I carry it in a leather Craftsman knife holster because the plastic Mora sheath isn't flexible at all, and because I needed to add a notch for hooking the strap of my scanner. Lots of coworkers have asked about it and they like it.

I carry a Big Chris Wharncliffe in 10V at work for cardboard and general duty. Been two years and judicious stropping is all it has needed. Russ

The Gerber EAB Lite is the best, most affordable option. It's only $9 on Amazon, and for that you get

* Small and slim
* Strong liner lock
* Zero blade play
* Deep ride tip-up carry pocket clip
* Opens and closes with one hand

I know most of Gerber's stuff sucks, but this doesn't.

Irwin makes bimetal blades for box cutters. They cost about twice as much but last 3X as long.

I want a box cutter for industrial use like cuttering heavy duty boxes, carton boxes. so please suggest a suitable box cutter for this work

Welcome! J Jose Boxcutter
Did you read through both of these zombie threads you resurrected and couldn't find an answer to your question?
You should probably just start a new thread and give as much information as you can. Do you want something that you will sharpen yourself quite often, or one with disposable blades? Do you want a folder? Or a fixed blade etc.
