Box cutters anyone?

We have full size box cutters at work to cut down boxes and other stuff. I usually just use my edc which is always on me to quicly open some boxes or cut straps/rope on pallets etc...If I have to cut a ton of cardboard or do lots of abusive cutting in one sitting ill walk my lazy ass to the work bench for a box cutter lol.

Another thing to add, you can touch up a blade in the time it takes to open and replace the blade in a utility knife, there's wins and loses but I prefer knives. :)

Another thing to repeat is that you can touch up a box cutter blade. :D

If you are gonna try a box cutter try Edc this.

I prefer to carry a blade with a thin stock and a high end steel, but to each his own. I have found that the Spyderco Dragonfly in ZDP-189 is a cardboard slayer.

I have the same exact one, it is one heck of a tank, although the blade locking hinge is getting worn down a lot

At the job-site, box-cutters are the tool of choice. Drywall, tar paper, metal flashing, asphalt shingles, and boxes are all easier to cut with a razor-thin blade. Try using your EDC on shingles for a day, or a few weeks, you will have a ruined knife. The only time I saw someone use their EDC was at break-time or lunch.
Box-cutters are boring though. A friend of mine carried one on and off the job-site and I always respected his utilitarianism.

In my off time, I gotta carry something I like. Hard to beat the cutting performance of a razor though. Almost every knife is a folding prybar in comparison.

In my hip pocket, where I would carry a box cutter if I so desired, I instead carry a two-sided folding diamond hone. One side fine, the other ultra fine. If one of my Military's or my Leatherman Charge TI get dull, I simply hone it. Don't like me no box cutters. Although I will admit the switchblade version on page one is kinda neat. ;-)

Do you know the name of the diamond hone? I am looking for a good one to carry, all I find are " 3" Fine Grit Diamond Sharpeners" that leave a very coarse edge on my blade, I would like to find something finer

Now you wouldn't use those nice blades on, I don't know, dry wall, or some roof shingles?

I have a couple of huskies and a 100 blade pack. Use em often. Best tool on earth for cutting drywall clean is a multi max BTW. I live mine!

Sure but then I don't cut them everyday so I don't really need to "EDC" box cutters. :p

Oh, and another thing, do you really have to cut dry wall and roof shingles everyday?

The dragonfly in ZDP-189 is indeed a cardboard slayer. You can run it through cardboard all day and not dull it. ZDP-189 is amazing!

That said, If I couldn't sharpen my knives I would probably use a box cutter.

I love using my knives on cardboard. Heck sometimes I will break down boxes that don't really need to be broken down for recycling with a new or freshly sharpened/stropped knife to see how it performs.

The one I have is an Eze Lap/ Not sure how easy they are to find. Out where I live there is a knife shop that has a bunch of old s--t in it. A lot of really old out-of-production knives and hones, etc. I picked it up there one day by stumble on.

Having said that, DMT makes them currently. A friend recently bought a medium / ultra fine on the web. Medium / ultra fine is a good combination. You should not have any trouble finding one, they are referred to as diafolds.
