Hi everyone...it's been awhile. I have a question about some burl I found. I have a Box Elder tree that is dead and has been for a few yrs. It was standing until this winter and it finally fell down. It's covered in burl from the base of the trunk up to about 10 ft. One spot on the trunk is a burl about 2x3 and sticks out about a foot. I would guess it's trunk is 7 ft round. It's rotted out about 2/3rds of the way up the trunk to about 6 ft and tapers as it goes. My question is, does this wood still need to be dried or is there a chance it's pretty stable? I haven't had the chance to put a moisture meter on it yet because I haven't finished cutting it up. I'm going to do that today. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I would cut the burls off....let them sit for a few more years in a dry place (Just forget about them for a while) and then send them in for stabilising. Should make for some nice handles after that.
