:) how durable is box elder, as far as dents and dings in the wood. will it hold up to edc?
 
Every wood in the CRK lineup will stand up to edc. Just don't put in your pocket with a bunch of keys or something everyday and you'll be fine. If it does get scratched they can take care of it for you at CRK. I have a snakewood mnandi that I have EDCed on and off for over a year and the wood doesn't show any signs. If you're looking for the hardest wood it Lignim Vitate (might be mispelled) which is the hardest hardwood known.
 
Lol, it's Lignum Vitae as the hardest wood, but all the woods used are stabilized and shouldn't be an issue. I think that Box Elder is really beautiful! One of the prettiest woods CRK's ever used imo. Buy what appeals to you.

I've asked myself the same thing. Box elder has a specific gravity of .45, therefore quite soft, whereas lignum vitae reaches 1.23. You're probably asking this in relation to a Mnandi's inlay, or one of the "Year-Sebbies"...?

I chose my Small Seb with African blackwood which is tough as nails at 1.20. I'd still buy a box elder CRK because of it's beauty, anyway! :thumbup:

Looked those figures up in Terry Porter's excellent "Wood: Identification and use", BTW. Over 1.00, wood will sink in water.
