Boxes? I don't need no stinking boxes!

If we could all just agree to throw away the boxes, that would be a great thing. However, the box lovers control the market, and as a result I have a drawer full of damn boxes!

I recently threw out all the boxes for my chinese made cheapies. Anything made by decent companies remain for resale value at least. Still takes a full shelf.

Well, I actually cut upp the box to ribbons when I get a new knife. That's the way I've always done it, instantly learing about its factory sharpness, ergonomics, cutting performance etc.

I must be the weird guy here. I only have three or four boxes, of discontinued knives, where I store them (Cold Steel X2, KaBar Potbelly, Spyderco Spyderhawk and Cold Steel Desperado, IIRC)

I have an old box for a rifle that's worth around a hundred bucks these days. I wish I would have kept all the old fishing lure boxes also as they are worth quite a bit too. I guess the knife boxes would yield the same results also as time goes on.

I keep all my boxes. When I buy a knife, I prefer to have the box and any paperwork. I prefer to see a pic of the box in the for sale thread too. I see it as a little more insurance that its not a counterfeit.

When I was younger and moved around a lot, I tossed out the original boxes for knives, guns, cameras, etc. But now that I'm older and settled I keep the boxes. I have a ton of knives stored in their original boxes inside other boxes. My daily rotation knives are kept on a shelf with their original boxes. For my purposes, keeping the knives in boxes is a more tidy way of keeping up with them rather than just a mass of knives in one big pile.

All boxes aren't equal. My Lionsteel came with a nice wooden box, I'd never pitch that one. My Hoker Haddock came with a really nice magnetic presentation box as well.

The other day I put some of the boxes into a bag and put them in the crawl space (all my knives are users and or in drawers waiting to be carried) so I have no idea why I keep the boxes. Probably for people in the future who might find it fun to have the box for "this old knife".

Just don't sell your knives.
Problem solved! :)

I only keep boxes I want...as no one else will be getting my knives.

Believe it or not, having the box and paperwork will typically assure you get 15-20% more than without. I store a great many knives in their box, even when not in use. I don't like having them littered all over the place in different bags and such. A single large rubbermaid container houses almost all the boxes, it's in a climate controlled area of the house, not an eyesore.

I do the same thing.

Try stacking them without the boxes.

I do the same thing.

Aye - I keep all of my "keeper" knife boxes in one tub, and keep the "going away" knives IN their boxes (when applicable) in, fittingly, a large flat rate box with the top flaps torn off.

Also, I like how this thread went.

Title: "I don't need boxes!"
Content: "I need boxes."
Replies: "So do we."

I actually just threw out all my boxes, not just knife boxes but I also have a Code 3 fire truck collection and those went too. I lost my man cave to a kids room and I just don't have anywhere to put them. Every knife I own I've carried at least once so I don't know if boxes would matter if I went to sell them, oh well such is life I didn't buy any of them as an investment.
