Boxes

I'm another box keeper. I find it easier to keep the knives organized when I'm not carrying them. It doesn't have anything to do with selling or trading in my case.

I kept some Schrades in the boxes, but they're nothing really rare. I just got them that way and never used or carried them. A couple of the boxes are pretty beat up but they stack up in the safe better. The one I threw away and wish I'd kept is the box for my multi-colored Kershaw Boa. I thought I'd carry it, but never really did. The box might make it easier to trade some day. My Whirlwind is lighter and opens faster and I just liked it better. A couple Queens are still in boxes, and the box for the Country Cousin in my pocket is sitting here on my desk.

Hi folks -

I keep the boxes - when I am not using them, I'll put them back in the boxes for protection. The knives that I rotate for edc are on a shelf and the boxes are stored in a drawer.

If I found that there was a clutter of old boxes, I might toss some out, but for now it is not a problem to keep them.

best regards -

When i first began collecting knives i didn't realize that meant i would also become a knife box collector. Almost all of my knives have been bought on ebay and an unused knife with original box and papers may sell for nearly double what the same knife without box and papers might sell for. So if you don't keep boxes/papers you are basically throwing money away because eventually the knives will be sold, probably by my children who will inherit them.
But i like to be able to see my knives in their approppriate groups, like all Case knives together, Fight'n Roosters, etc., etc., so i store them out of box in knife rolls and knife cases. This means i have about 2000 boxes stored unorganized in large plastic storage containers. Given enough time i could probably find the correct box for most of the knives, but i doubt a non knife person could. That is the problem with this system because my children are not 'knifers' and likely will curse me for creating this massive puzzle.
I don't like being a box collector but since most other serious collectors want the box as well as the knife, i feel forced to collect boxes as well.
Fortunately about 1/2 my knives have been well used and came without boxes.
