In the Boy Scouts, during regional campouts and competitions, we used to compete in several events. One of them was the firestarting event. The 'game' went like this. A string was tied between two stakes so that it was 24" off the ground. Each group was given 12" of 2x4 and two matches. The goal was to split the 2x4 up and make a fire with it and burn the string before the other groups.

I thoght this would be a fun project here. If you want to participate, then time yourselves, and report back, and post times and pics. Be sure to post your time and your method of starting the fire. Maybe try it more than one way.

What says y'all?

Done, I win. took me 1.4 seconds.

Method used: lit match, then held it to string!!

What do I win????

:D

You getting ready for the camporee down there Andy? I know a troop down in the ATL area that was practicing this the other day :D

Two matches?? Luxury!!!

We only got one. Well, we got two in the actual competition, but when we were taught how to build fires, 1 match.

We's split up the chores, and 2 of us would be making shavings/fuzz stick, while the others would make kindling sized pieces, and start building the "log cabin".

We smoked everyone each time....

Been too many years, but they actually investigated us once for allegedly using some kind of accelerant we'd get one going so fast.
