It's kind of a novelty, but I bought one for my son (a cubscout). I'm reasonably impressed with quality for $10. It holds quite a bit of stuff, I put a Penrith kit, AMK heat sheet, cordage, light and knife in his, with room to spare. The Boy Scouts are also selling a small "survival" backpack too (haven't checked it out yet). My son is still a little guy, so he carries the belt pack over his shoulder instead around his waist, I tried it on and found it pretty comfortable. In any case here the link:

www.scoutstuff.org (check the pack section)

That looks cool. I've been looking for something small for my daughter and my wife to wear in the woods so they have at least a minimal kit with them. So far my wife is open to the idea.

Where did you find this?

Charlie

Neat find. I think it's great to see this sort of product permeating to younger generations.

Yep, it's kind of cool.. I get the the catalogs from the scouts, and I saw it and bought it. Just go to www.scoutstuff.org and it is the pack section (looks like it is out of stock at the moment).

Dr. Mudd,

Yep! A whistle and a photon light are standard gear on my son's packs. I'll post pics of his regular packs sometime soon. Thanks for pointing that out!

Langston,

I agree. The one on the left is the pack I was referring to. It looks like the same maker as the belt pouch, in which case, it probably isn't too bad...

it kinda has that "i just bailed out of my plane and am stuck on a desserted island and i all i have is this pack" look to it

Yep, it's got that whole D.B. Cooper thing going on, I like it and doesn't look to big. The belt pouch is light material, so I figure the pack is lighter than my maxpedition stuff.

D.B. Cooper.....that what i was thinking.....yeah.....so would you say its like a book bag type pack....?

Langston,

I think it would be small for a book bag, based on the pics I've seen. I think it would would be a good day hike bag.
