Boy Scout troop missing in NC

Did you read the story? They did not decide to stay overnight on a whim.They got lost and for safety decided to camp for the night and find their way out the next morning.They didn't notify anyone because they had no cell phone service when they got service they called and let them know what happened.

That's no excuse. Where were the smoke signals? Whistles? GPS? Beacons? Satellite phone? Flares? GMRS? CBs? How in the world do people survive in the wild overnight without such necessities?

And I like how the troop came out and was totally fine since they were prepared.
 
I've never got lost on any of my scout trips. But then again, we hike in the Whites so things are crowded. Forward preperation is something we emphasize.
