Well I actually ended up letting my wife put the Duncan Whiplash under the tree while I became real familiar with the Obie framelocker. Gained such an appreciation for the Obie that I found a second one for sale on the forums and snagged it, but that is another story as this is about the Whiplash. Again this is a large knife with a 4.0" blade and an overall length of a litle over 9.25". I've discussed the specs, action, and lockup in above posts but will state that there is no change with anything as this knife has as solid a lockup as any thing I have. The action is what really fascinates me. I have taken the right hand scale and liner off to get a better look at the bearing that the blade has. The bearing is a sealed bearing and is pressed in as it would not slip off the pivot pin and I was not gonna to force it! That is why I say it is pressed in the blade. I did wipe everything off and apply just 1 drop of Sentry Tuff-Glide to the pivot pin. I reassembled the knife and tightened the pivot screw as tight as it will go. The blade litterally glides open! A little push to overcome the liner and ball detent and the blade just GLIDES open. This is the smoothest knife action I have had. The blade is not loose in any way and is under control the entire way through the opening arc........it is just SMOOTH. The liner puts enough pressure on the blade to hold it closed with no problem, and upon closing the blade you can feel and hear the liner snap over on the blade tang. Blade stays square in the handle when closed. When opened the blade is locked up tight with no play in any direction. Speaking of the blade the grinds are simply awesome. The blade is about 1.25" at its widest point and the hollow grind starts at 3/4" up from the edge. It is a deep hollow grind and with the blade only being .125" thick to start with it makes for an unequaled slicer of a blade, especially with that recurve "sweet-spot" it has.
Itwould not have hurt my feelings for the knife to have had a blade that was 5/32" thick. Of course with the bearing protruding about 1/32" on each side of the blade tang it would have widened the handle some but I would have been alright with that.

Great knife this Duncan, and the smoothest knife I've ever had. At 6.4 ounces it has some heft to it but being spread out over 9.25+" the knife still remains light and very well balanced in the hand. Heck I was even excited about it being under the tree and getting to unwrap it this morning!
