Bradford Guardian 3

I took a diamondstone and ran the very corner of the edge at the lip of the choil at a 45 degree angle to the edge, essentially just chamfering off the very very tip of the edge to not be sharp (maybe 1/16th of an inch of the edge total got flattened)

pictures don't really show anything.

Awesome. I was thinking the very same thing. I saw what the ApostleP did on his youtube video was nice but might be just a tad overkill for me. I'll probably do something like what you did on mine.

Thanks!

I took a Dremel and slightly rounded off the sharp edge at the back on the choil...because it will nick you. that's my only complaint about this knife and it was a simple fix and completely solves the problem. I really wish they would do this at the factory if they need ideas look at a Cold Steel American Lawman choil.

Can anyone give some impressions of the smooth "3D" scales versus the original waffle pattern?

The G3, G4 and G6 😎

Ah I think I sold you that G4, one of my biggest regrets, beautiful knife. I also have the G3 with CF scales in CPM-3v, love that knife! I have large hands, and can get 4 fingers on it only if pointer finger is in choil, but it doesn't bother me at all. Had to cut 3 24" frozen Striped bass off of a stringer once with it, it is still razor sharp. They had at least a 1" thick cartilage bone around their mouths, but the knife went through it like butter.

I have extra large hands. I tried the flat scales because of looks but wasn't even going to consider them at first because I thought the 3D would be better with large hands. I like them both the same for different reasons...

*The 3D scales and the flat have the same amount of grip in the end for me because the 3D makes more surface contact with my hands and the flat has more grip to it per whatever my hands can purchase.

*I think the 3D is just a tad (a very very small tad) more comfortable for me.

*The flat should conceal just a bit better.

*I like how the micarta reacts to wet and oils and becomes slightly tackier and has a better look as one uses them (looks less pixelated).

Personally I like them both the same amount. I REALLY like the look of the tiger strip on the flat scales and I'd love to get a knife with that. If you have any specific question that addresses something I'm not thinking of please ask but that's my first impressions with the differences between them.

My 3D micarta isn't smooth. It has a rough texture to it. I have XL hands & the size/shape/texture suits me fine. I haven't handled the G10 scaled models, so I can't say which would be more comfortable in actual use.

I have the regular g10 scales but ordered some 3d micarta because I prefer some palm swell. I'll let you know how I like it when they arrive and I get some use in.
