Bradford leather sheath

I wish Bradford would drop the leather sheath. It is pretty useless. Having to buy a kydex sheath on top of the knife purchase makes them more costly than the competition.
I bought a Guardian 3.5 not knowing the leather sheath was a no go. I quickly ordered an Artamus (sp?) Sheath.
 
It’s frustrating. Factory sheaths are rarely worth keeping. Even when they are high quality, they aren’t always best for a given situation.

The sheath replacement or modification needs to be considered as part of the final cost. As you pointed out. Price is not the same as cost.

Price +tax + shipping + new sheath. All add up to the actual cost.
 
You can buy Bradfords with kydex sheaths as well. Leather isn't the only option, if you look around.

It’s good for leaving lil bits of leather everywhere you draw the blade!! 😜

I bought an Armatus sheath also!
 
I bought the kydex taco along with my guardian 3, but I was surprised that I ended up preferring leather belt sheath much more and it had been all I've ever used with the knife. It tucks away very well.

I bought a 5.5 and a 6 also and I shelled out for the kydex on those as well, which ticked each one over $300, which stinks, but I wouldn't carry the knives without the kydex.

I'm overdue on starting to make my own kydex.
 
I must be the only person that doesn’t mind the Bradford leather sheaths. I like light retention, maybe that’s why. My pet peeve is sheaths with too much retention. I don’t want to have to two-hand draw or pull my pants up to my neck to get my knife out 🤣. So long as it doesn’t fall out when held upside down I’m good to go.
 
I avoid being upside down at all costs! Lol. Retention is certainly an issue both ways.
 
I carry my Guardian3 in this Bark River sheath. It fits perfectly, with good retention. I think it's the Woodland Special. It can be worn vertical, or left side cross draw at a slight forward angle, which I prefer.

Couldn't slots be cut in the Bradford sheath's horizontal belt loop for on-belt carry? It could be worn on the right side, and it would tilt forward. It wouldn't ride very tight due to the loose belt loop. OR....wear it on the left side, between the belt and pants. It would still tilt forward, but would ride tight.

The leather Guardian 3 sheath works OK for pocket carry. I tried attaching a clip to carry it vertically on a belt but that didn't work too well, so I took it off. I may make a deep pouch type sheath for belt carry.
