I am currently selling some knives on ebay and in the end I will have about $170.00 to spend on a new knife. I was thinking about buying the Bradley Alias 2.

How does it compare against a small Sebenza? I've actually heard some people say that they like the Bradley Alias's more than the Sebenzas.

Everything I've read was the other way around... I believe the quote was "save the money and buy a sebbie"...

I have often wondered the same thing, but I personally see everyone saying how the sebenza is THE benchmark folder, I want to try that if I'm buying another higher end folder... even if it means saving another 100 or so... plus if you don't like the seb, you can sell it for what you paid for it (or close) and buy an alias and have some spare cash left over...

There are some people that prefer the Alias to the Sebenza. Better ergos, different blade shape. But nobody is going to say that a knife that is nearly half the price of the Sebenza is comparable in finish and tolerances.

I think the Alias is an excellent $170 knife.
I also think the Sebenza is an excellent $330 knife.

There's only so much comparison you can do between the two.

Go for it. As far as I know Bradley stopped making Alias, so you might find it difficult to get later.

Forget about comparing those two. Both are excellent knives, but price is not exactly the same and not exactly the same quality.

I agree, the Alias is a great knife for the price.

Both are nice knives, but the Bradley is not a Sebenza.... ;)

Benchmade makes the Alias for Bradley.
Chris Reeve has been making the Sebenza for 20+ years I think it is.

They are both excellent knives for their respective prices.

They are both made of the same or similiar materials.

In how these materials are put together..... lies the real difference.

Sebenza all the way for me...............

I have owned a few of both..
For me.. The handle of the alias is much more comfortable.. And the blade was a razor..
Smoother opening too..
Get the alias..

Look at the Buck Mayo TNT 172 if you want a titanium frame lock. Its awesome and a bit cheaper.

I don't think they stopped making them. They were made by Benchmade and they were looking for another manufacturer but couldn't find one that could make it at the same price is what I heard.

Since they are made by Benchmade they have to wait until Benchmade can fit them into their schedule. I think the Alias models are just now starting to make it back into stores so they must have just finished a run of them.

FlaMtnBkr is right the Alias is still in production and made by Benchmade. They have only recently started to trickle back into dealers.

You will end up buying a sebenza someday anyways, so I would just save up and get the sebenza.

I bought the sebenza first, and heard about the alias later, decided to purchase the alias, instantly knew why the sebenza is twice as much, it is more than twice the quality.

I tinkered with my sebenza opening and closing it a billion times and it goes back together and is still a bankvault.

I had a few things off with the alias right away with a sticking lockbar, uncentered blade, not very sharp out of the box. Sure it opens faster, but you lose some things in that aspect, like a slight blade wobble. Plus the lockbar tension is very weak on the alias. You can bend it back and forth with ease, and for that fact, it will wear out ALOT faster than the sebenza.

The Sebenza will last you a lifetime and you will love it and compare every other knife to it, and nothing will come close to it.

Save you won't regret it.

Thanks for the info. Good to know. Wondering if that will make Alias more expensive now.

Just curious but why would a lockbar that is easier to flex wear out any quicker? I don't think it will wear out any quicker than a sebenza and definitely not A LOT faster.

Sure the sebenza is a well made knife but there are plenty others that are just as good of a knife.

If you are craving a Sebenza then eventually you'll buy it anyway so you may contemplate saving up for it.

For your $170 I do think that the Spyderco Sage 2 offers an interesting alternative.

Considering user preference, the Sebenza isn't always better than the Alias...but the Alias will always be an imitation of the Sebenza.

Foor for thought.

I kind of like the Alias more than the Sebenza, I like the pocket clip much more and the blade shape as well. I have held both and yes the fit and finish is better on the Sebenza but I like how the Alias feels in my hand more so then the Sebenza. They are both fantastic designs but I prefer the Alias but I will most likely end up owning both :D
