Bradley Alias (II) best sub-$200 option against the Sebenza?

Until you can work out getting a Sebenza, a Sage 2 is a very nice alternative. I'm not a huge fan of the leaf-shaped blade, but the quality and materials are exceptional. I haven't worked an Alias, but it is a Benchmade so the quality should be decent. It's also thinner than the Sage, which to me, means better pocket carry. YMMV of course.

lava_lamp does a great review with pictures that compare the Sage 2 to other framelocks. You should check it out.

Good luck to you. $200 will buy you ALOT of knife, so you'll be just fine.

Thanks for the advice guys. In the end, I went with the Alias II:

And I'm a happy camper. It fits perfectly in my hand, is very light (3 oz) and feels very strong. The name is kind of lame (it would be cooler if the company was called Poison Dart Frog or something) but now I have a practical EDC titanium knife. :)

I think you made the right decision. I like the design of the Alias better than the Sebenza.

I've owned both large and small Alias and regret letting them go, these two are very hard to find anywhere and are worth their weight. I'm just surprised they're not being made any longer (as I understand it) hence the high prices.

I'll give another vote for the Sage 2, which I've owned for a month or so and it's become one of my favorite EDC knives. It's a winner in so many ways, the QC control is superb and the blade takes a very sharp edge. Best of all it's very easy to carry with that wire clip.

Sounds like you went for the Alias II, good choice and congrats on finding one!

they did stop making them, but I thought they brought at least one of the Aliases back; I might be wrong though.

Another here  Not to mention an outstanding BM warranty service if needed.

BTW,does anyone know what kind of lockbar that spyderco uses for their knives. Is it bare titanium, carbonized, or a piece of steel. In the case of the Alias,I know the lockbar face has a piece of steel like a sebenza.

Unless Bradley has recently changed the lock face on the Alias, it is not steel. It is bare titanium. So is the Sebenza.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If Reeve would just stand aside and let Sal make the blades for the Sebenza, they'd be worth every penny of the asking price and then some. Proper heat treatment and the Spyder hole. Paired up with CRK's ultra smooth action and bank vault lockup. Yowza, excuse me while I fantasize with a faraway, distant look on my face. Once this Spyderbenza becomes a reality, threads like this will disappear. Nobody will be asking "is there an alternative?". Knife nuts will be standing in lines to throw wads of money at Sal and CRK. It will look like the betting cages at the Belmont Stakes. Constables with billy clubs will have to keep the peace. A strict "no cutting the lines" policy will be enforced. You go to the bathroom, you go to the back of the line.

Buying the Bradley is like casting a vote for "the other guy" in an election. You are effectively saying (with your dollars) that until Sal and Chris get together on this, your money is going elsewhere. ;)

Anyhoo. Congrats on the Bradley. Good knife. Carry it in good heath. Cheers.

I'm going completely reverse what I said previously about the Alias II:

I'm not sure what was up with the first Large/Small version I checked out previously, but I just tried two more (large and small) at a different dealer...

And honestly it was pretty freaky how Sebenza like the feel was. The look is obviously similar, but even the pivot felt almost identical. Pretty trippy, I guess I can see why someone would choose one in lieu of a Sebenza...but I think the price was approx $250? Personally I would rather just pay the extra 80 bucks to get the real deal...but I can see how this is a compelling buy.

I wonder if their QC isn't as good, or maybe I just handled two bunk knives originally? The first ones I checked out felt really loose, and nothing like a Sebenza.
