Has anyone else noticed that the spider is inset with a triple-ground piece of carbon fiber?!?!?!? It took me a while to figure it out - it's like jewelry! WOW.

Or, I'm hallucinating. But only when I look at the spider.

You're not hallucinating (unless Spyderco treated the blades with something ;)). It does have a raised 3-D appearance and feel. I am curious how they do it?

Sal, Kristi?

I think my sage has something like you are describing as well. It must be a different method that the Taiwan makers use to put the spyder logo on the blade

Looking at my Gayle Bradley, it looks like it's engraved in a tri direction. Like, an expanding triangle. I don't think that it's inlaid with CF, and it's just how it's engraved. Possibly faster?

Yeah, looks like it is machined instead of a laser etched

this was the best I could manage, but not for lack of trying. my photo skills are a bit lacking though.

obviously this is the Sage 2, the bradley may differ, but I suspect they are similar, and it is just the way the Taiwan maker does their spyders.

That is awesome! The light does show the detail in a subtle but striking way. Thansk for the image. I'll have to pick up one of these ASAP.

what you can't see in that picture - and it would be near-impossible to get in a photo - is that one of the 3 sides has a carbon-fiber weave pattern to it! It's crazy.

It is 3D AND each side is different, one having "dots" like the CF handle - that's why I think it's actually a CF inset. But I'd need a loupe to be sure.

Anyone test the hardness on theirs yet? I am still curious about that. It's I get this or hunt down a s90v manix....

Thanks. I think this knife will appeal to a lot of people. It seems to have a lot of bases covered--it is pretty, it is cool, it is reported to have great fit and finish, and while heavy, it appears to be a very tough knife.

I'll report what mine tests out at when it gets tested in a week or two. I do plan on getting mine heat treated to 65 RC, but if it is already there that will be great. It sharpens up extremely well, very crisp and clean like my 62.5 RC Mule in M4.

I have to clarify that the pic I took was of the Sage 2, not the bradley, I don't have one.

Hadn't noticed, so I got got my 10x and looked... Low and behold! It looks machined, in little (very) lines around and around. Sal, do you care to comment on this and how it was done? I don't know if I can photograph the details, but I'll try.

Looking at my VG-10 Endura 4, I see the same fine horizonal lines in the Spyder logo. However, it feels smooth to the touch. If I can get some good close ups I'll post them.

I busted out my little radio shack pocket microscope and it looks like a fingerprint under magnification. There is no way it is machined that small. It is laser engraved and I think that since there is a pattern instead of the laser just going back and forth it gives it a texture appearance at different angles. I am also looking at the Sage 2 and not the bradley.
