The more I look at this knife, the more it grows on me. Looks like it would slot nicely between my KA-BAR and my Bolt Knife.

I looked at several sites and they all seemed to be back ordered. Have any of you guys had any hands on with one yet?

LV,

LV,

Yes, I got one. It's a great variation of the 119.

You can do lashing as the front and rear guards have holes. Plus, it looks as if the tang nut allows quick change, replacement of leather disk. Cool! DM

I hope this one shows up at the PX - that would be a perfect place to market them. OH

David,

I like the stacked leather. Also the tough looking finish. It might make it easier for me to use/abuse this knife. I know Bucks are tough. But most are so pretty, I have a hard time using them.

I am very guarded of how mine are treated. Maybe that is why my 102 still looks so good after so many years.

I also avoid handing them off to the guy in camp, who asks. Anybody have a sharp knife? And then proceeds to cut up onions and venison in a cast iron fry pan, with someone else's knife.

With the Brahma, I would have no problem being a little rougher with it. I realize, in reality this knife is most likely no tougher than a standard 119. That is fine with me. That knife is tough enough.

As to the lashing points. I guess they're cool. I have spent my whole adult life trying to avoid getting myself in situations where I might need to lash a knife to a stck.

Truthfully, even if I found myself in that situation. I doubt I would do it.
I just see some angry animal running off with my knife stuck in its side never to be seen again. I think I would just build some spears or a bow. Maybe I don't watch enough television! I guess it is good to have just in case.

This is a want thing, more than a need thing. I like that it slots so nicely between the Bolt and the Ka-Bar. Because sometimes the Bolt seems a tad short and the Ka-bar a tad long. And I have to believe the quality would take a step up.

I have heard some describe the 119 as a better fighting knife, than most fighting knives. I would agree. And the grip on this one might even improve on that. This matters little to me at this point. Plus, I always thought the best fighting knife was a shotgun.

My Brahma will be used for much more boring, docile, purposes anyway. Woods bumming, shelter building, general camp use, and the like.

JB did yours come that dark or did you do something to darken the leather? If you darkened it, how?

I really like this version of the 119. It feels like it's a tad smaller in my hand (could be just a different feel) which I don't care for but the grip is fantastic.

Hi MPM,

I did not do a thing to it. That is how the handle came, take a look at mine -vs- yours. In addition to the color mine has thin leather rings and your's has fat rings that are twice as wide per ring as mine. The one that I was sent looks just like the one in the catalog, same small rings, same dark color.

Jb4570, do you have a picture of the end of your box...

mwputnam, do you have a picture of the end of your box...

That way we can see how close they were made to each other...

:)

Mwputnam

I received mine on Monday. It is a carbon copy of yours. Fat, light colored spacers. I compared ours to JB's. His spacers are darker and thinner. Yours and mine have three spacers in between the dark leather spacers except at the end, we both have five spacers towards the butt. JB's seems to have five spacers between the dark spacers and seven at the butt. The box dates mine 04/08/15.

Already a new variation. Now I have to get the other one!

By the way, this is one great knife, thanks Buck.

Thanks for the shots and the comments.

Looks like a workhorse.

I had heard they were going to narrow up the grip a bit after the first run. Not quite the bulge of the first ones.

03/04/2015 is the born on date printed on my box.

FYI: The dark rings are black Micarta not dark leather. I think the dark colored leather looks better with the dark colored blade. When I buy a knife that is in the catalog, I expect it to look like the catalog picture and get pissed off when it's not the same. If I were you guys I'd be asking Buck why you did not get what you were expecting, instead of how to darken the handle. However, I'm sure there are some folks out there that will like the lighter leather better than the dark leather. Also, some folks like all the variations of each model they can get:rolleyes:

Hard decision between Buck Brahma and the Ontario air force survival knife. :)
Just worried about the tip on the Brahma.
either way it's a great choice, Made in USA !

Dark or light, that is one fine looking knife, IMO. Perhaps next month...

The manufacture date on mine is 4-6-15. I like the darker leather also. So yes, there are either already two versions out, or it's just a variation from knife to knife. I believe I will give buck a call to find out.

I agree with LV and his fighting/survival talk. But, with one addition, everyone should try knapping a flint head, even a crude one. You only have to have one as wide as your spear shaft. It just helps cut the hide and then a slot big enough for a shaft channel to get to vitals. The big folsom points you see were for throwing. I am hanging on to my survival spear till I can poke something with my hands. Unless your really lucky, knife fighting usually draws blood and injury from both fighters.

I do like this knife as a go to the wilderness with Survivor Man to look for bigfoot knife.
