David,
I like the stacked leather. Also the tough looking finish. It might make it easier for me to use/abuse this knife. I know Bucks are tough. But most are so pretty, I have a hard time using them.
I am very guarded of how mine are treated. Maybe that is why my 102 still looks so good after so many years.
I also avoid handing them off to the guy in camp, who asks. Anybody have a sharp knife? And then proceeds to cut up onions and venison in a cast iron fry pan, with someone else's knife.
With the Brahma, I would have no problem being a little rougher with it. I realize, in reality this knife is most likely no tougher than a standard 119. That is fine with me. That knife is tough enough.
As to the lashing points. I guess they're cool. I have spent my whole adult life trying to avoid getting myself in situations where I might need to lash a knife to a stck.
Truthfully, even if I found myself in that situation. I doubt I would do it.
I just see some angry animal running off with my knife stuck in its side never to be seen again. I think I would just build some spears or a bow. Maybe I don't watch enough television! I guess it is good to have just in case.
This is a want thing, more than a need thing. I like that it slots so nicely between the Bolt and the Ka-Bar. Because sometimes the Bolt seems a tad short and the Ka-bar a tad long. And I have to believe the quality would take a step up.
I have heard some describe the 119 as a better fighting knife, than most fighting knives. I would agree. And the grip on this one might even improve on that. This matters little to me at this point. Plus, I always thought the best fighting knife was a shotgun.
My Brahma will be used for much more boring, docile, purposes anyway. Woods bumming, shelter building, general camp use, and the like.
