So- I purchased a Spyderco Centofante C25 from brancon here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-Vintage-Spyderco-Kizer-and-more-to-your-door

Being UK based, we agreed postage costs and I made payment via Paypal.

brancon posted it tracked- good as gold.....and there the wheels came off, thanks the ineptitude of Royal Mail:
The knife skipped merrily from the US all the way to darkness of London Heathrow, where it disappeared and tracking mysteriously stopped.

I PM'd brancon and he started working it from his end....he suggested I wait another 2 days before refunding and I suggested 7 instead- as things take time.
7 days passed and I PM'd brancon with a status update- he instantly demanded to refund me.
I agreed and we commiserated about the fact some sticky-fingered Postman was probably wrecking a long-discontinued Spyderco :(

Roll the clock forward another 1.5 months and I suddenly get a 'grey card' through the door for a demand for Customs charges....I order all kinds of stuff online, so this isn't unusual....

2 days later, what appears but a very neatly wrapped Spyderco Centofante C25 with a bunch of redirection labels on it from being lost by Royal Mail.

I immediately PM'd brancon and offered to refund him the refund he'd made to me.

brancon insisted that he would absorb the customs charge and realized that his original refund via Paypal was missing the fees- so he made it clear he would only accept the original price less these costs which he would absorb. He didn't have to do that, but I was very grateful all the same.

What more can you say apart from:

1. brancon is a stand-up guy and 100% reliable, as well as being an all round gentleman.

2. A little give and take goes a long way. Both of us behaved sensibly when things went sideways and treated each other as adults- the results were mutually acceptable.

3. All bets are off when you deal with Royal Mail :D

4. (on my behalf, like Sal Glesser says) Integrity is being good when no-one is looking or no-one will find out....
I could've played dumb and kept both knife and refund- even if I'd been found out, it's a 6000mile round trip for brancon to knock on my door.
But I don't deal with the world that way, nor this community either.

Stellar attitudes and communication on both of your parts. I completely understand the extra fun of being a member here and not living in the US! While what you have described should be seen as the standard normal behaviour between responsible adults, it's also worthy of a bit of recognition.

Good on both parties involved. Although this type of thing probably happens more often than we hear about, it is refreshing and a good reminder to read about it here. As opposed to the typical "bad and ugly" we see more frequently.
In addition, I would like to say, everyone I have dealt with here on BF has been a pleasure to deal with.

There's always an element of risk when dealing not only with strangers, but anonymous strangers. When they are honest and honorable people, it doesn't matter. Good on both of you!

Demoncase's patience during this whole process, as well as his forthrightness when the knife finally (against all odds!) crossed his threshold, were both highly commendable. Have no doubt when doing deals with the demon!

Very cool. Threads like this make me a proud member and supporter of Bladeforums.

Both of you guy's deserve credit for being standup guy's. I would be happy to do business with either of you anytime. I recently sold a Elmax Blur to stwesterner. It still had the factory edge but was a little dull he also told me there was a dent at the pivot that I had missed (must be the trifocals) anyway I offered a full refund immediately but he declined stating he had been looking for that knife for a while and it was fine. I did not feel good about the transaction on my part so I sent him a very excellent condition Kershaw Emerson cqc-4k in the box to make up for my mistake. Things like this are just the right thing to do.

Whoever misdirected the knife in the first place, the Royal Snail should get credit for keeping at it till they finally got it home. :D

Wait a cotton pickin minute!!!
Since when do we put up with good manners and common sense here??? I will not stand for this gentlemanly behavior!!
😬😬
This should be a sticky!!
Big thumbs up for both parties!!
Joe

No. No...No....NO. Just No.
Royal Fail will never, ever warrant any credit whatsoever when said knife travelled 4000 miles in 3 days- then travel 150 miles in 45 days.....

I will not sully this thread with my extensive and bitter rants against the 'institution' of RM ;)
(Note: That's institution as in mental institution)

Brian is good people..Have had a few deals with him..FLAWLESS.........

Never delt with brancon but the why he presents himself on the forums and all the great feedback when he has I knife I'm looking for I would buy it. It's great to see the good guys get their praise here
