Brand Loyalty

I got a reply from Rick Hinderer (himself!) yesterday, telling me that Canadian Armed Forces members qualify for the direct purchase deal, so I have a feeling that my loyalty will be shared between ZT and Hinderer by the summer...

Very cool

I carry a Southard AVO. I enjoy and appreciate CRK. I generally have a lot of Spyderco, and a few favorite models of BenchMade. And only one ZT, since I've found a nice one that weighs only 3 ounces. I do not "go over" five ounces...ever.

If I may ask, What ZT model?

I am perfectly loyal to Spyderco. I only have Spyderco folders. It goes without saying that they give superior quality and really good value (quality to price ratio) but there are two main reasons why i feel the need to be loyal:

1.) To not spend too much on knives: this limits my options and reduces the likelihood of me buying knives that i do not need. i am picky, even within spyderco's offerings.

2.) To induce a "collection value": This is something i learned through the art collection world. Whenever i buy Spydercos, it gives my already-beautiful collection even more value, no matter which Spyderco it is. This prevents me from suffering major losses on buying a knife i don't end up liking; i can keep it and it still helps my collection. A collection of 10 Spydercos is worth more than the sum of those 10 Spydercos individually, because it is a collection.

This is just a brief explanation. Sometimes, i have hour-long buying philosophy conversations with a collector friend of mine. It is all just a way of maximizing my dollars spent and minimizing losses from mistake purchases.

For folders, I am mostly a ZT guy. I haven't had any other brand folder hold a lace in my pocket for a long time. I currently have a 303, 392, and two 777s (nothing has been able to take this out of my pocket unless I'm in the woods/mts, then it is the 303)

With that, I do have interest in obtaining some other brands as funds become available: strider, hinderer, American Kami.

Fixed blades I'm much more diverse on: I have a Strider, 0100, Spartan, nocturnal (in the mail), American Kami (due to ship in 30 days), a Bawidamann (have a Ragnarok hawk on order that arrives in July) and an RMJ Berserker hawk.

Customer service is very important to me. Shit happens sometimes, and the telling is how the maker handles those issues. DJ at American Kami has the best response/customer service I have dealt with thus far (no knife issues, but ordering/requests/questions, he is very responsive)

I'm a big Esee Fan, When you weigh up the whole package, price, warranty , sheath and quality they rock. They are definatly not the prettiest knives or the best in every area of performance but for me and my uses they get the job done. I have cut up a lot of deer, hiked for miles, prepared many meals, and cleaned a lot of fish a with esee knives. I have also given a lot away to people who needed a good knife. a couple of other mentions are LT Wright and of course Becker knives.

I'm loyal to my needs, wants and whims. I keep an open mind. Personally, it's more about the journey than the destination.
