Hey fellas...The other day I finally went to the Evil Big Box for the first time and bought a new 110. Had to see for myself if the "W" 110s were the same as any other. Mine came with a fairly nice (although China made) black nylon sheath. It's my first new Folding Hunter since the Idaho tang stamp--which was '05 production, I think?? Anyway, I can't get over such a quality knife for so few $$. Lord knows what those evil Arkansans do to their employees to offer such a low price.

The tang stamp on this new honey looks like a duckfoot, or an upside-down British Broad Arrow. Anyone else have one with this mark, and is it to signify '07 production?

I ask myself that same question. The only thing I don't care for is the nylon sheath, although I have to admit it is very well made (mine was marked made in Mexico, not China). I just prefer the old black leather sheath, so I got one from the factory.

Yeah I think that the 110 should be about $40-$50 for the quality and warranty it comes with, but I am not complaining:D. I also think it's more like what walmart does to poor suppliers like Buck.:thumbdn:

Not to sidetrack, but no one forces Buck or anyone else to sell at Walmart. I suspect that most suppliers are dang thrilled to get their goods on the shelves of America's largest retailer. A zillion units sold at even a small margin is still big, big bucks. Bucks, get it. :)

I am blessed with a bunch of nice EDC knives, but its a lowly Wal-mart Buck on my belt right now.

Hey TIZWIN...

That is the 2007 date code

Duck foot?

It doesn't look like a duck foot.

It looks like an arrow pointing to hell.

You got it at the evil Wal-Mart, you say?

:D

Is that a new 889 Goose?

It would be interesting to know what the margin is on a $26.88 110. Even at high volumes, it's hard to imagine Buck making money on them.

After stumbling across this website a week ago, I also ended up buying my first Buck (110) last night at Dicks' for $40. I couldn't find these low prices that you guys talk about anywhere around me. I made myself feel better by reminding myself that every time I take my family out to a family restaurant, I spend at least that much and have nothing to show for it other than a bowel movement the next day.
What a knife! Internet pictures don't do this beauty justice.
I'm going to go look for something to cut now. Thanks all for your tips and opinions.

Woah! Way too much information there, Tracker.;)

Welcome to the Buck forum and congrats on the 110 purchase, I am certain that it won't be the last.

A big welcome to Tracker2!

The only new production 110s I've bought before were two different finger-groove models. All my other 110s were from that auction website, or custom shop editions. I wanted to get a plain vanilla 110, and see if those Wally World versions were the real deal. They are!

And that 420HC steel takes a WICKED edge! I can get it sharper than my BG42s, although the edge probably won't last as long.

I don't plan on visiting the Evil Box again real soon. The guy who sold me my 110 had just called his supervisor to help someone else with a gun purchase, and while he helped me with the knife, he kept looking anxiously at his supervisor, like she was about to jump on his s**t any second. It actually made me a little nervous as well.

A buck 110 from wally world has got to be one of the best buys going right now. that's a quality knife for under $30. ahgar
And by the way us Arkansans aren't evil just misunderstood.

Did yours come with a ballistic nylon sheath or the real leather one??

I got mine on sale at Academy last year around Christmas for around $19 complete with a leather sheath. The Wal Mart's around Dallas have quite a few Buck knives, 110s, 119s, either the Omni or Alpha Hunter (don't remember which one) and a couple of slip joints including the stockman. I am not sure what kind of sheath the knives have since I have never looked that close at them, but they are all priced well below what you can find at other stores.

I stopped at an Academy across town yesterday - they had yellow-boxed 119's - with leather sheaths - for $37.84 - all other 119's I've seen lately (W-W - $33.88) were with nylon, like the 110's, whether blister packed or boxed. They also have the 110's blister packed - with the 'Edge2x' mentioned on the front and back - and for $21.99 - with black leather 'Made in Mexico' 110 marked sheath. Make that $23.75 with s/t... I 'broke the Buck drought'. I think that sale lasts through the week. Mine is '06 marked (sideway's 'T').

*NOW* what did I miss??? :grumpy:

I swear, get a measly 24 hour ban and everything happens at once...
Wow Trax...you did time for that crud??? That's messed up.

I would DEFINITELY pay the extra few bucks for the leather sheath 119.
My prob with the nylon sheaths is that I have no sense of security that the loop is tough enuf for hard use. Have no history to base it on...just seems cheesy that way it is sewn.
