Brand new bk10 and I screwed with it.

Hey everybody.
My name is Barry and I'm new to this site and also to the Becker line of knives. I bought the bk10 because I wanted a reasonable priced, good camping and hiking knife that I could beat on. I got the knife last week and was very excited when I opened the box. After fondling it for a few hours, I couldn't get over the thumb ramp and the smooth handle. So I watched a few youtube videos, read a bunch of post here and dove in. After I stippled the handles and removed the thumb ramp, I decided that I also wanted to add jimping. I'm pretty happy with the results, being that it's my first time modding a knife. All that's left is to get it broken in.

Thank you but I have to admit that I was a little scared.
I mostly used the dremel to do the jimping. First I started off with the cutoff disc and tried to get it as close to the finished depth as possible. Then I used a tungsten cutter to remove most of the metal and get the circular shape. Finally I used the chain saw sharpening stone which was the perfect size 5/32 and it also helped to smooth everything out. I tried using a rat tail file at one point but it didn't workout that well.

Very nice work Barry and welcome. Great idea with the chainsaw stone. Now you can't simply stop at one BK. which will you consider next? Although what you've done with the 10 makes it an awesome all rounder. Hope you can hang around mate.

Nice job man! Get bitten by the Becker Bug! Jimping looks great, must be the TravisH method?
I don't own a 10, that's a great lookin 10. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more pics of the whole knife.
Or just a flat side view.

Fantastic work brother and welcome! Love the 10, it's such a cool blade. You have definitely have a great all-rounder there that's ALL yours now. Onya bud. Simple mods like that seem to make a real big difference when it comes to customizing. Love seeing these types of mods. Top notch mate..

Forgot to mention Barry, you'll notice too if you hang around, that the peeps in this cool little area I like to call Beckerberg are of the highest caliber. Wonderful welcoming folks with great knowledge that love to help. You'll really like it here..

That looks pretty awesome, especially right out of the gate! Welcome to the campfire. Next let's see some dirt on that 10. If you liked it that much to give it such a beautiful head start, yer gonna love it when you start cutting sh....tuff up.

Outstanding job and welcome to the forum. Can't wait to see the next project.

Very nice! The 10 is my fav ... after the 5 and 15. ;)

I'm almost finished mod'ing my 10 and you've got me thinking about mod'ing another. ;)

And welcome to the addiction!

Thank you for the positive feedback and for welcoming me into your virtual campfire.
For the stippling, I used the corner of a flat tip on my soldering pen. I've stippled a few paintball markers before and I found that regular pointed tip would make the pattern to symmetrical. I personally like a more random pattern so I change the angle as I go.

Sorry for the poor pics. It's 4:30a and the suns not up yet. lol

As far as my next Becker? I was thinking something smaller like the necker or remora.

Looks great! The 11 or 14 are much more useful than the remora. At about $20 its worth picking up but if you have to choose, you'll find the 11 and 14 quickly become favorites for all around edc.

That stippling is nice but I just don't have the patience to do it. When I want some texture I wrap a piece of bacon around the handles and hand it to the dog.

Consider this idea stolen, LOL!

Nice work on the mods, nostayathome!

I have to agree with the others that an 11 is a very handy little blade. It was my entrée into the BK family and it's one of my favorite knives.
