Brand new bk10 and I screwed with it.

That stippling is nice but I just don't have the patience to do it. When I want some texture I wrap a piece of bacon around the handles and hand it to the dog.

Haha! Would you happen to have a YouTube video of this mod so I can have something to go by? lol
Thank you for everyone's input. I'll definitely take a look at the bk11.

I like my 11 a lot...now that I fixed it. (I fixed it right away - it was a necessity, not a choice)

Nice! How did you get it to look so clean?
I was thinking about doing a choil but I decided on using it first.

Wow!! Nice work! How did you change it from etched to stamped!? :D

Though I didn't do it, one can either use PCB etchant (ferric chloride, IIRC - but my memory doesn't work all the time) or electrochemical etching (salt/vinegar water with DC voltage applied). I use the electrochemical method, as it's faster and easier to control. Plus, if you apply AC voltage after you've deepened the etch with the DC, it blackens it. Just did a whole bunch of mine in preparation for stripping/modding:

Lots of YT info as well as threads here on the BK&T sub (1 or 2 done by yours truly ;)).

Right - I etched the logo, in preparation for stripping the blade.
I used a Dremel with a grinding wheel to reshape the handle...it fits my hand much better now.

I love these mods. I'm sure that it'll be a great performing blade for all your camping/hiking/beating-on-it chories:thumbup:

Sarcasm...I thought it was two different blades. So people actually take the laser etch and chem etch it and leave it black?

Not that I know of...unless they get sidetracked. Both of the people that mentioned it in this thread specified that it was in preparation for stripping the blades. In my case, I wasn't done with the etching process when I took that second pic; but the blade was stripped in short order. I don't remember if I posted a pic of that in the original thread, though.

You guys are killing me with your pimped-out Beckers. Guess I'm going to eventually have to screw with some of mine.

Hah, yup, I missed that part in GSOM's post. My bad...

post of the week

Thanks again everyone.
I am deeply humbled and I even got the thumbs up from Mr. Becker.
I think I'll celebrate by cutting something down this weekend. :D

why does everybody hate the thumb ramp? that is one of the features that drew me over to the bk10.

Congrats on the new addiction and welcome to this side of the nut house haha

Good work it looks like you did a good job, my only suggestion is to test the spine and see if you left it with enough of an edge to strike a ferro rod (assuming you use one, if you don't I recommend trying one)
